My St205 Needs A Clutch!

Recommended Posts

I've got a GT-Four and it needs a new clutch.

I have heard it's a big job and can be quite pricey.

I want to get cambelt done aswell...

I've been quoted £600 for this......... and I feel like thats a little too expensive?

Apparently it takes two days for this to be done.....

Help me out please :) Anyone know any places in North West that are good and experienced?

To be honest £600 is about right.

The clutch change on a GT4 requires the Gearbox to be removed, some people will do this with the engine in the car some will take the engine out and then split the gearbox off.

Either way your looking at £200-£300 purley on the labour. A stock toyota clutch from normal sources is around £200-£250 you can save a bit on this by getting the clutch from TCB http://www.tcbparts.co.uk/. They sell the clutch kit including new release bearing for £ 125.73 + ( £ 22.00 v.a.t.). The difference in price is because they get them straight from Asin who make the clutchs for toyota rather than getting the same part but in a toyota branded box from Toyota.

So your looking at £400+ for the clutch replacement alone, on top of that a cambelt replacement will normally set you back around £100-£150.

If it's a garage you trust I go with them, otherwise if you willing to travel a bit give Ian at Toyauto Center (Nottingham) a call http://www.toyautocentre.co.uk/.

Ian is the first and last stop for anything GT-Four related he's forgotten more about these cars than most of us will ever know. He has owners from as far as belgium coming over to get their cars serviced by him...!!!

give ian at toyauto a call (0115 9787844) hes in nots but is a GT4 specialist.

two days is about right.

think ian charges 350 plus the clutch (std toyota one is about £140 IIRC) and the cambelt could be done while the engine is out thus saving on labour for that

tensioner is not nessesary unless its leaking (which youll find when you compress it for refitting. idler pulleys are the most common overlooked problem. they usualy go dry. new ones are £40 from toyota and you need two.

seen a few done by mr clutch and to be honest the do them without removing the engine and so dont put all the bolts back in +they use cheap gear oil.

Thank you for your help :)

It's a local garage (ish) that is reliable and they have worked on my friends cars so I trust them. Notts is a bit too far for me but thanks for that, I will remember them for future!

if you have full AA cover you can get them to take the car down by making it break down (efi fuse not being there works a treat ;) ) and then get the train to pick it up
