Hi, i'm new, and am glad to of found this forum because I have just ordered an Aygo for myself on Toyota finance. I got a + in the Chilli red, I considered the carbon quartz one but thought the red looked great.

I have a few questions I was hoping y'all could help me with :)

  • Where can I get hold of those auxiliary cables to hook up my iPod? Do Toyota provide them?
  • Seeing as I am not taking out the free insurance because I am not 21, do you think the dealer will throw in some mats?
  • What are the most common problems with the car (if any) that I should look out for?

Thanks :)

Hi Robby

The insurance HAS to be worth something I'm sure.

There's not a huge amount for the dealer in an Aygio anyways - but I got a Black with AirCon on Toyota Finance and got £500 cash off and Inside and Out "scotch guard" or whatever they call it - worth about £200.

You are in a stronger negotiating position immediately BEFORE you order it rather than straight afterwards, obviously, but see how you get on.

Can;t help with other 2 questions as I don;t have an iPod and haven't yet found any probs. Other threads seem to explain common problems in some detail though.

If you aren't taking the insurance the finance APR should be around 6%.

Maplins sell the cables - ensure you get a stereo one.

mats - haggle if you want, but a decent quality non Toyota set can be had for £10.

Common problem seems to be the boot door lock. When you pick yours up, lock the car and ensure the boot lock works - ours didn't.

Hi and welcome to the club

as you have purchased using a PCP you should get something thrown in - it is very profitable for the dealer and the way they love to sell cars. mats are worth about £40 - but as mentioned you would have been better asking before rather than after you have committed !

The iPod cables can be bought for about £2 from Maplins or any large electrical store like Comet etc. Be warned though the Aygo is not very good on the Aux connection - you will probably have to have the volume on about max just to have sound at a reasonable level.

Might be worth spending a few minutes reading through the Aygo FAQ -

Output sound depends on the MP3 player. I have a Sony and it has switchable output for either headphones or line out. Switching to line out is required when using it in the Aygo.

It's not the Aux connection that's the problem it's the iPod. You need to get the connector which plugs into the iPod dock port (on the bottom of the unit) and not to the headphone socket. They can be bought from HMV or Belkin do something called the Auto Kit which has a charger built in as well. The quality of the sound then is superb :D

OK I bow to your expertise guys - it's good news anyway

Low aux input is listed as an issue on the TOC Aygo FAQ so I'll amend it to reflect this info.

Thanks

Wicked - cheers bradburyss! will be having a mooch round town tomoz for one of those puppies. They do them on Amazon for anyone interested for £17 which is better than any on e-bay at the mo...although I'll prob end up buying one for £30 tomoz just so I have it in my sweaty little hand! Have just also bought a Tunedok to go in the cup holder to keep my pod safe and secure!

Enjoy your car Robby - I picked mine up about 5 hours ago, and apart from having a small meltdown by how scary it is driving a new car not a dented rustbucket, I'm loving it so far!

I am dreading crashing it in the Toyota car park :-(

To save messing about with cables I bought an FM MP3 Transmitter:

One problem with the car:

If you do any motorway driving or drive in any high winds you may notice that the car is lacking in wind resistance

Are those legal in the UK? Over here they're not !!!

As for the side winds; it's a relatively high car with

small wheels and low weight, so it's not that surplising...
