Cts Noise At Low Speed

This one is gonna be hard to explain so bare with me!

When rolling along slowly in 1st or 2nd gear (i.e queuing in traffic or speed humps) you can usually let go of the accelerator and clutch and let the car run on idle or above idle. Right!

My problem comes when you put your foot on the accelerator (not right down to the floor, just slightly to pick the revs up). I get a judder like its about to stall, and a real loud squel noise, once the revs go over 2k it stops. Its really common on speed humps as i will let the car go over on its own idle and then tap the accelerator on the rear tyres rolling over it. Its only at low gear and a speed about 7mph. 2nd gear is more noticeable than 1st!

Any ideas anybody?

Hi rolley!

Now then I dont know if im on the right track, but i get a sort of rattle, rumble almost blowing sort of pinking noise (thats if you young ones know what pinking is, seeing im 60 next). I can induce the noise by sticking it reverse, hand brake on, and let clutch out until almost stalling, if you get someone to to do this while you stick your head under the hood, the noise comes from the back of the engine. Got Mr T to do just this and he said its the manifold / exhaust joint where their isnt a solid joint but one held shut tight by bolts and springs. These springs allow movement, as in when the engine is about to stall or when pulling away at low revs from a low speed as in your case. This explanation sumed up my noise almost perfectly even down to the blowing exhaust noise.

So there's only one thing for it, I blast it out of every road end in fact everywhere I can, can't get enough of it Brilliant :yahoo:

lol, i never hang about in mine either, excpet for speed bumps, always knocking my tracking out so i take em slow. As far as the squel noise it sounds like a belt slipping, but can't be sure, so she is going in to Mr T on friday to see what they think! i'll keep ya posted

Thanx for the post back it'd be good if thats all it is!

dude, have you had the tow eye mod done? It acts as a tuning fork and resonates the vibration into a kind of howl, just bash the plate up using my favourite tool....a knocking stick

Whats a tow eye?

Don't think its every been done because i've never heard of it! Rolley goes in today at 4.30! I think its the auxilary belt thats squeling when it slips, as for the vibration and judder i think thats something either a bit loose or the fact its run on tick over in low gear. Its not like the car is wanting to stall she just seems to be jerky soon as you apply the throttle! Anyway will find out today and i'll keep people posted!

Just come back from the Mr T garage!

It is the auxilary belt as thought. The pre-tensioner has gone weak and both the belt and pre-tensioner need to be replaced. I haven't got a problem with that bar the cost. Been quoted £250 (i think thats VAT included).

Is this a fair price? its apparently an hour to fix it and i did sneak a peak at there price for labour, its £75 an hour! that would mean the belt and pre-tensioner is £175

is this right?

if you've got tools, do it it yourself. the aux belt is easy to get at! they are fleecing you for labour.

Tensioner price is right, The actual changing the thing is an *****, the engine mount has to come off if you wanna change the whole unit, but if you want you can just change the damper part!
