Hi all, have just bought myself a Liteace and joined the TOC through recommendation of my Wife who is a member.

It's a 91/92 GXL 2ltr TD Automatic. A few things that need a bit of TLC, but overall the engine is sweet. It doesn't like idling while in gear, but I'm hoping this will be a tuning issue.

I've been reading different topics, but because it's an import, I'm not sure what year it is (it has a private plate that came with the vehicle) so I'm waiting for the V5 to arrive. I'd like to know what 4k, 5k etc means and whether there is anything I should be aware of that could go wrong.

Cheers all,

Ryboy

Hi Ryboy......i just bought a Town Ace, similar to yours, imported, 2ltr deisel auto, with problems :(

doesn't 'k' mean thousands,...eg.....5k=five thousand....or am i being a thick bugger?

Since doing a bit of research I think the 4k 5k etc refers to the petrol variety :D

I must admit I'm growing to like the van, his ugliness has an appeal don't you think? It's in amazing nick for it's age, but could do with a new set of alloys :)

I've bought the oil/air/fuel filters and it's booked in Friday for changing them plus a pre-MOT. Looked under the 'bonnet' and it's more difficult to work on than my Wife's MR2  I really hate having to ask my local garage but sometimes it's better than the fustration of diy.

Hopefully we can share some useful info on the beasts mate

Ryboy

l've been a van man all my life Ryboy, and after retiring, l've been driving cars, but i miss driving vans, that's why l bought it. l also like repairing them, it gives me something interesting to do.

problem with mine is that it dies every few hundred yards and l have to restart it, but mine seems in good nick, and is growing on me,

they are a lot better made than the transits i'm used to.

l've been told not to buy used alloys, cos they are prone to air leaks, l took the mirror off the back of mine, didn't think it nessesarry.

best of luck with yer MOT mate, mine came taxed and MOT'd til august................billy

It's unusual for a Liteace to have skylights....you might have a rare one there..... :D

My Masterace has them....and so do a few models of the Townace.......but I've never seen a Liteace with them before......nice looking van...... :D :D

Is that a LWB one Billy? He does look in good nick  . I guess Toyotas were built to last.

That's a nice looking one Ang. Ours certainly had a lot of TLC since we've owned him. I don't think the previous owners gave him much love, but we've cleaned him inside and out and he's buffed up well I must admit!

Now you come to mention it, I've haven't seen a Liteace with the skylights either. I've noticed them more now we've got one (you always do) but there are so many different varieties aren't there? Even our interior and seating arrangement is different to ones I've seen. Ours has the middle bench seats that swivel, but the third seat that's by the side door faces backwards and only looks big enough for a 3 yr old!

Ryboy

Nice pics Ang :D

Ryboy i've got a small seat there, but it faces forward....you could call your seat 'the naughty' seat, for misbehaving children, or adults :P

l've taken the fold up back seats out of my Townace so l can still use it as a van for the bit of work l still do, hopefully to pay for running costs dunno wether to scrap them or what, theyre a bit big to be hangin about the place.

Years ago I used to own a nissan serena and I took the back seats out, but when it came to selling it and putting the seats back in they were really mouldy from where they'd been sat in the shed for a year!

I have two naughty dogs, but they don't sit still long enough. They love the sliding side windows to stick their heads out of!!!

Ryboy

they would make terrific sun loungers for my garden, if l can get, or make covers for them, otherwise it's a trip to the tip :(
