Oil Leaks

Well my Corolla xli is about to go for it's retest. I got a new Cat to improve emission, got the clip replaced to hold the exhaust, got the door screws tightened, got the links and bushes replaced, and had a mechanic check the oil leaks. He said the front and back seals on the engine are both gone. He said they are cheap to but the parts at around 10 euro each but that the gearbox would have to be removed to place them in the engine! He said it would not be worth my while as the car is a 96. He also said my gearbox is leaking a little too. I have noticed that the gears can be a little stiff in the gear stick, but the gearbox was only replaced last summer!! He cleaned the underneath of the car, put a pecial locking fluid into the engine to mix with the oil and temporarily seal the leaks. He told me that the car may well pass the test like this.

But my main worry is, is the car going to last?
