Yaris Audio Questions

Hey all,

I finally managed to get all the bits together and got a new aftermarket headunit installed (for £10!).

Now I need to buy 2 Speakers to replace the ones on the dash, an amp and a sub.

Couple of questions;

-the guy who installed the headunit suggested I buy a 4 channel amp so that it could power the sub as well as the 2 new Speakers, does that sound...right?

-I know nothing about amps, subs, watts or anything in between, so for a small car like a Yaris what sort of wattage Amp and Sub should I be looking to get?

-And finally, any recommendations for the dash Speakers...what type/quality etc do I need?

nice head unit - what ive done is just changed the dash Speakers to some non standard 10cm ones n jus left em wired up to the headunit - as my head units decent (52x4w) it runs them nicely

but if u were to run them off an amp - they would send better, but its a bit more of an effort wiring them up, and if too much power is sent from the amp they could blow

Ok,well the head unit has a "MOSFET 50 W x 4 Amplifier", so lets say I only power the sub,

do I then just need a Mono Amp?

What type of Speakers are needed for the front? (eg. full range/mid range/components..etc)

and as previously asked, what sort of wattage should I be looking to get for the amp and sub?

What!!?

It's not the power of an amp that blows up your Speakers - it's distortion...

Most HU build-in amp only produces aproxx. 10-15W of power without distortion... ;-)

So - go' for the external 3 or 4-channel amp with 2-komponent speakersystem (6,5" midtone and a seperate tweeter) and get a 8, 10 or 12" subwoofer... A little 8" subwoofer is better to a small amp - a small amp combined with a 12" sounds rubbish - and you get distortion = the risk of a dead sub... :-(

You can offcourse put a 15" sub in your car, with a BIG amp - turn it all up, and blow you car away... :D

To be honest if your HU amp is good then it is good enough to power Speakers, you wont notice much difference with your front Speakers amped.

On a HU the 50 x 4 is maximum not RMS

Then just a small sub and amp package.

I have a fli trap 10" active one so amp is bult in, its good enough for a yaris and its amazing for cost but it isnt show stopping!

Well... I don't have the best experience with Pioneer's component speaker systems... But yes - it's not a bad setup i would think... Og damn - your prices are low in the UK... :(

i amped up my door and dash Speakers so they are both getting 160 watts which is way to loud so yea id jst get some ok door/dash Speakers n wack em on the headunit

as for bass like sr kid said u dnt need to much i ave a 1400wat inphase sub being powered to 1000watts n its wayyyyyy to much for the poor lil rattley yaris :(

i got inphase 4" dash Speakers and fli 6.5" door speakers and these do the job quiet nicely and would recommend them

Wowza, thanks for all the advice.

I've ordered;

an FLI 10" active sub (built in amp)

a pair of FLI 4" Speakers for the dash

and a pair of FLI 6.5" Speakers for the door

At a total of just under £150, I'm well impressed!

Questions;

Will there be any special adaptors needed for the dash Speakers?

Which of these, or neither, or both, do I need for the door speakers?

Think the second ones look more like the ones I used.

Next time think im just goin to nock up an mdf ring though!
