Fitting Side Bar/steps

Hi all.

Just spent the last couple of hours fitting side bars (non toyota type) on my 4.2. Instructions are bloody

useless, they show how brackets etc go together, but dont show where on Rav they bolt on. In fact they

dont show Rav at all. Anyway got so far but now need advice on last bits. The middle and front brackets

as well as being bolted to floor pan also have a long bolt and a couple of plates which look like they go

through a grommet on the floor. This means one of the plates and the bolt would have to go under the

carpet for each bracket. This would mean removing interior trim and peeling back carpet ( a bit major).

Anyone done these before ? If so can you offer any advice before I start pulling things off unneccesarily.

Chris, thanks for reply had a look at Toyota site. These ones are slightly different, as well as using

the tapped holes, the Toyota brackets are kind of L shaped these are more T shaped so they also

use a second hole. Hard to describe but if you'r familiar with engineering terms it looks like the heel

of a clamp (all you cnc millers out there will know what I mean) there are photos on the direct4X4 web

site mk2 rav side bars.

Cheers.

Dave

i see what you mean, if the toyota ones are wider & don,t need them I'd consider leaving them off, if it were me, If it's as big a job as you say it is(they don't get used as a step anyway apart from by my 5 year old & mine hold her fine)

Hi all,

Just thought some of you would like an update, bars now fitted. Had to cheat a bit as 4 of the 6 brackets

do have a bolt which goes through floor inside of car. You first remove rubber grommet to expose hole

in floor, I then made small cut with stanley knife on carpet (about 2-3 ") fed plate and bolt through hole

and the job is now history.

Any of you thinking about going for these type of bars I would say go for it. Time to do approx 3 hours,

and on a scale of 1-10 for difficulty I would give it 5 spanners once you suss instructions/drawing.

Cheers.
