HAHAHA - My sister has just rung me to say that she is very happy as her car tax is £55 for the year. Then my renewal came through the post this morning and it stated that it was £40 for the year!!!!! Very please with that and puts another tick in the box as to why it was a good idea to buy the car!!!! :D

Not as good as my convertible GT6! :D

I didnt receive a renewel in the post? Getting my car taxed up today, but still no renewel?

Mine came in the post :)

When did you receive it? A month before your tax was due?

Maybe Toyota didnt register the car to my address properly...

you should get it about 3 weeks before your tax is due.

You get an online reference number with it. It is much easier doing it this way take two mins. Put in your reference number, card details and its sorted. New disc arrives in post.

I have to renew the tax on the beemer this month. £175.00.

Only paying £40 makes the process almost enjoyable.

My Audi tax came last Thursday (£135), so two weeks before renewal. As it's due I decided to go and change the car instead. New one ordered delivery in 8-10 weeks!!

and before you know it you'll manage to close all of the Post Offices down . . . . so remember that when buying your car tax on line. :censor:

Oh and by the way - if the tax disc is lost in the post the DVLA will make you buy a second one BEFORE refunding the first one . . . . .

Post offices get closed down because they are inefficient, and the majority of services they provide can be done better, cheaper, elsewhere.

I find it considerably ill-informed, and not to mention cowardly to even conceive of blaming the innocent motorist usng the fastest, easiest and most cost-effective method of paying tax for the closure of post offices.

It's like blaming Tesco for your local corner shop going out of business. Tesco has more products at a lower price. This is what the consumer wants. Not inflated prices in exchange for a knowing smile from your well-fed shopowner.

This is a market economy. If shops go out of business it is because they were either too inefficient to compete, they lacked the innovative qualities to survive, or because they were incapable of adequately differentiating their service.

The consumer is not to blame for exercising their right to choose.

urmmmm... anyway back to the tax, i agree its great. As our one is new i dont need to buy tax till next year, but compared to my Hyundai Coupes £190 its brilliant.... we wont even talk about the price of our nissan x-trails tax :crybaby:

I would like to point out that as someone who used to work for Royal Mail Group and a sub-postmaster I am not 'ill-informed'. Sub-post offices are paid per unit and each transation is given a unit rating. Posting a letter or evern armfulls of eBay is not worth the effort whereas taxing a car does give a decent renumeration.

As for using the net being the most cost efficient method of paying - I was not aware it was any cheaper to the end user to go on line rather than go to the Post Office, maybe I'm wrong on this point (but I seriously doubt it!). However if your tax disc is lost in the post can you afford to buy 2 bofore getting your refund back - I know some people who would not be able to afford that (especially if they are not lucky enough to have a car who's tax is now only £35 a year) but if the on-line option becomes the only choice then those people will have to suffer.

I would accept that it might be quicker to do it on line but just remember, when the Post Offices are shut down, and the heart of the rural community dies with it, that for the sake of a slight inconvenience once or twice a year on your part this could have been avoided.

Try thinking of other people and what they need sometime! :ffs:

oh and if you buy on line using a credit card they will charge you £2.50

Our local post office doesn't do car tax, would mean making a special trip into town just to do it. With parking as costly as it is I will quite happily pay £2.50 for having it delivered.

Just got better with todays budget - road tax for Aygo now £35

Not ill-informed then, just incredibly biased. The finer workings of the Royal Mail's remuneration scheme do not interest the consumer.

Cost efficient because you don't have to drive there, because you don't have to pay for parking, because you're not bombarded with cross-selling opportunities while waiting in line, because time has a cost value attached to it. For all these reasons and probably more, it is cheaper to get car tax online. And givent that most areas near me will cheerfully charge way more than £2.50 for a minimum parking charge, the credit card fee becomes almost completely irrelevant. Also, if you can't afford to pay your car tax, perhaps you should consider a car with a smaller engine?

I'm not entirely sure why I should give a damn what anyone else needs. I pay my taxes (a considerable amount of them in fact), which are in turn spent subsiding perpetually breeding benefit fraudsters and wastrels with no intention of making an honest living. The balance of my taxes is either spent propping up services I don't use or handed over in ever increasing quantities of aid to the developing world.

I don't need to be considerate, because the government does that on my behalf in an over-generous manner. That and the fact that the market ensures that the needs of the majority are, sadly, always met.

You may have gripes because Royal mail made you redundant or whatever, but don't try to blame that on technologically enhanced services, eh? Because they're going to keep on coming for quite some time. I'd hate to hear your views on RFID.

I am not going to pursue this one as its getting out of hand, suffice to say I was not made redundant - I left of my own volition

But I will end with my final comment that I put up previously - think about OTHER people for a change - for example, the little old lady who can't use a PC and who is safe in the knoweldge that if she does not come in for her pension people will check up on her to make sure that she is okay. Unfortinately in the greedy world we live in today, your attitude (its all about me!) is the sort of thing that people think is okay - well all I can say is I hope you never need to rely on people making a few self sacrifices to make your life more enjoyable or even just about liveable because we might not be inclined to do it!!

Posted

Whoa there!! I think that's an over-reaction and deviation from the subject. Just because you want to buy your tax on-line doesn't mean that you want people to self sacrifice themselves!! Plus someone shouldn't have to rely on a post office to be checked up upon!! This should stop now, it's getting silly and out of hand!!

Lets go back to the subject and celebrate that the tax has dropped to £35 for petrol and diesel models!!

:yahoo:

What a bunch of smug peoples we are!!!

Even more reason to smile (or even laugh loudly at other people in their gas guzzlers) whilst driving the wee beestie. I think it is the first time ever I have been happy with something in a Budget!

(Just noticed too that "bradburyss" is also a Fareham'ite. Good show that man!!)

I am indeed Cokeman!! Yes and very smug hehe although I've been knocked down a peg by my sister as her car tax was £50 but has dropped to £35 too! Can't rub it in that mine is cheaper any more LOL

I have just been told I am in fact sitting in front of this screen with a huge smug look on my face! Ha Ha!

Not just confined to the grin in the car now, it has spread indoors! woohoo!

£35 a year tax? Even I'm laughing & I haven't even got an Aygo, that's quality

I taxed my Smart last week safe in the knowledge that Car Tax nearly always goes up and after the cut last year it would never go down again - WHOOPS!

In some cultures, ownership of wealth is recognised, but by virtue of the fact that we will all eventually die, the owner is seen as a trustee with responsibilities to exercise. Personal wealth not being utilised in a business or enterprise are "taxed" once a year and distributed among those in (genuine) poverty.

yeah i though it was a mistake haha received the letter and the 6 month box was not even available to tick it just had a blank next to the cost section so i jus assumed that it was double and stuck 80 in the post only 2 be told it was actually really 40 quid haha

u all have rather good points of view lol i used to work in a travel agents before the internet took over and did us outta businness, i dont blame the customer tho would you pay 100 quid extra for more hassle at an agents? on the other hand would it put a smile on workers' faces if you were loyal to your store and paid that difference to MAKE A DIFFERENCE??? i think a minor thing like 40 pound road tax is irrelevant how we pay for it there are bigger and more pressing things in this world to worry bout rather than our own countries snobby attitudes towards every last damn penny! lol at the end of the day the cheapest option will always come out winning cos thats wat us ppl want isnt it???
