Servicing

Hi All,

My Avensis has just passed the 54K mark and the Service Manual recommends a Valve clearance check at this stage. The 7A Fe engine is running sweet and there are no signs of any problems. I'm concerned that if I put this in for a service I may end up with problems (no confidence in any garage!). Has anyone got details of findings from this check on their services? Furthermore, if I decide to book this in, can anyone recommend someone in the Swindon area to do this?

Your comments are most welome.

Regards

I have a Carina II with a 4A-F engine, which is basically the same. The valve clearances will be fine mate, as they are shims. As long as it runs fine and sounds sweet, don't worry about it!

MrT service sheet for wifes car states that the valves are checked with a stethoscope and only adjusted if necessary. They have the nerve to charge extra for the adjustment though.

No rattle = No problem. Don't fix what ain't broken.

Thanks everyone.

I can't hear anything of any consequence on tickover.

With regard to a recommended garage in my area, it would appear that my suspicions have been confirmed!

Regards
