Hi

I am hoping that someone will be able to help me, I have a 1986 celica with a 3S-GE engine which is miss firing and has a loss of power up to 3500 rpm above this the engine runs perfectly. I have checked the ECU error code and this is 43 which states check engine start signal above 800 rpm. Does anyone know how to check this and any other information about this fault?

Hi,

First thing you want to do,is to clear the code.

With the ignition switched on,remove the 15A EFI fuse for about 30 seconds( in this weather it takes longer to clear).

Fit the fuse and take the car for a run to confirm you still have the problem.

The Code 43 you got before sometimes happens when the car is "bump started" (assuming it is a manual gearbox) because the ECU does'nt get a cranking signal from the STA. Terminal 50 on the Starter motor.

Do you get the misfire all the time or does it go when the engine reaches normal temp.

If it only happens when the coolant temp.is cold, then it could be the coolant Temp.sensor gone !Removed! up(it would double the injection volume and run well rich untill the revs get up and the engine "cleans" out)

Hope some of this is usefull to Ya.
