THE SEAT BELT WARNING SYSTEM IS DRIVING ME CRAZY. I AM OFTEN TRUNDLING ABOUT ON FARM TRACKS IN MY T180. SO I DON'T TEND TO PUT ON MY SAFETY BELT. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO SHUT UP THE WARNING NOISE, APART FROM WAITING FOR 60 SECONDS UNTIL IT STOPS PINGING AT YOU. DO NOT MIND THE THE FLASHING LIGHT IT IS THE NOISE THAT GETS TO ME. I KNOW SOMEONE WHO HAS A DISCOVERY AND THEY HAVE A SECRET WAY OF SWITCHING OFF THE WARNING NOISE FOR THE SEAT BELTS... :crybaby::help:

Knowing not a lot about your model, a last resort could be to get yersel along to a scrappy and cut a buckle off another toyota or I found that some other Jap cars have similar buckles. Its easy enuf to grind one to fit....

There is a way to turn off the Avensis passenger seat belt warning I do not know if it would work on a Rav? try doing a search on the Avensis forum and it should come up with the thread.

Or you could ask a dealer but as the last poster said try to get a buckle it seems to make sense

The dealer can do it. It's one of the many options that can be set via the computer.

Or, fasten the seat belt before you get in across the seat, then sit on it.

Pull the passenger seatbelt across and plug that in. saves sitting on the drivers belt when its plugged in.

  • 2 weeks later...

turn on ignition,

put the speedometer in "odo" mode,

turn off ignition

Push in speedometer button

While pressing the button, turn the key to ignition on

hold the putton pressed in for about 20 seconds

Without releasing the button, plug in the seatbelt on the drivers side.

Release the speedometer button, an the noise should be turned of.

Try it!

Of course you could always put the seat belt on?

I must admit that was my first thought in reply to the original post. I had seat belts fitted to my first car in 1971 (which was a 1953 registered Austin A30) and have never felt comfortable driving without a belt - even in coutries or places they're not mandated (in fact, those are often times when I feel it wisest to wear a seat belt).

I too feel a insecure out on the road without my seatbelt, but when you are using the car for slow manoeuvring with a trailer, for example, you don't need a seatbelt and that horrible noise becomes infuriating. Ask anyone who tows a horsebox, farm trailer or caravan.
