Tvss

Hi,

I just Bought myself a 93Toyota Celica 5th gen in white,its a 2litre Gti 16v job and was bought to replace my written off motorcyle,i gotta say this is the first time i,ve ever been in love with a car,she is very clean one small dent on the rear bumper (very hard to see) and there are a few chips here and there but i geuss that,s only to be expected,she has air con and a few other toys to keep me amused on long trips,what a smashing car, love it to bits, now to my question can i upgrade the Tvss unit in my celica to a Tvss system that is on the insurance approved list i think the one that is fitted is the very first gen of Tvss fitted to celicas? the one that is in it now works perfectly and coupled with the code alarm 500 pro that was also fitted by a previous owner does give the car a fair degree of protection altho not enough to be coverd for theft by the insurance companies,so if i can swap out the tvss unit for another what would i need and how would i go about it

Short Answer is no.

Long answer is you could but it would have to be done by a pro and certificated. It would be cheaper and easier to pay for a Thatcham Category 1 Alarm System to be installed by a pro then use that for insurance.

I have the approved TVSS system, and it saves me a grand total of £0 !! DirectLine don't give any discount for it

Thanks for the info, whats a good alarm/immobilzer to fit,i really would like to have the car covered for theft as well as being covered for accidents, btw direct line also said that i would,nt have a discount for an approved system,but if it dos,nt have an "approved" system installed then they won't cover it for theft

In that case I'd get a CAT 1 installed ASAP

The Toad alarms have had good results from memebrs on here.

They seem great value too at £195 including free fitting but you have to go to Birmingham:

There are some others around that price that do mobile fitting, just check firt with Direct Line to make sure they approve that model.

OK will do ,Birmingham is only a couple hours up the m5 so it,s prolly worth the journey to have somthing professionaly fitted + it,s an excuse to have a nice long drive in the Celica :P i'll let u know how i get on :P thanks again
