I would says the price looks ok then.

Diesels are alittle diffrent to drive then petrol.

Alot of your power is avaliable at the bottom end of the rev range.

Floor the car, and you should see a slight puff of black smoke, and thats it. Should run, and drive well through out the entire rev range.

Check for the obious, outleaks, body reapirs. History sheets.

HOW NOISY ARE THEY I"LL CHECK THE SERVICE HISTORY WHEN I GET TO THE GARAGE

Make sure the cambelt has been done if required. Have a feeling the old 2.0 D4-D has belt-driven rather than chain-driven cams, in which case a 60k change is probably expected. I'm not sure, so anyone who knows better then feel free to correct me....

Yes the Old D4d is belt driven, the new D4DC is chain driven.

If the belt has not been done, its not cheap to do.

Hi

I been for the test drive service history was fine BUT sorry to all you 4d owners out there but I did"nt like it.

1st diesel I have driven and definintly won"t be going down that road.

The ride was fine but the engine was noisy in a drummy sort of way difficult to describe really,

anyway he is going to locate a 2.0 ltr petrol for me to test for a day so fingers crossed he may come up with the goods.

As an aside if you are interested my Sclass is in the main dealers to have a flasher/wiper/ relay fitted £300 supply and fit but she"s my baby so its ok ha ha

The 4d4 Engine is quiter and more refined then the VW counterpart

now the VW engines sound like proper tractors

I know what you mean - the noise of a diesel can be off putting to some. I too am moving onto my first diesel. Thing is i hope you managed to have a decent test drive as they seem to quieten down after warming up and warming up takes an age.

At cruising speed they should be virtually silent and smooth; its only when accelerating, especially from 1st and 2nd when they are at their loudest.

Get used to that and diesels engines are so much better than petrol equivilants. Hope you find a decent car :)

To be honest if you are going down the petrol route I would go for the 1.8ltr rather than the 2.0.

As for umph and BHP there aint much in it, also the MPG is better...

I've got a t4 54 reg 1.8 and love it (although I almost traded it in for a 02 rav4 - glad I didnt now considering what mr brown has done to the road tax.... :-( )
