Leaking Aygo

There's me thinking I was alone with the problem of the leaking aygo.

I have a Aygo sport which I bought just over a year ago. A couple of months later we had rain and I noticed the drivers side footwell full of water. My car spent just over 2 months at Toyota Listers at Lincoln and the apparently manufactured a new door seal?!? :( and reassured me I wouldn't have the same prob again........wrong!

Early November, rain again, and the footwell has filled up with water. My car has been with the dealer since early November and I've been told Toyota are manufacturing a new door seal which will be shipped early Feb from Japan to the Europe factory, who knows when it will reach the UK :angry:

My car has probably done more milage around Listers car park than on the road. I am so fed up I really wish I had never bought it. :ffs: :crybaby:

Well we're now at 1st of February and I last saw my Aygo Sport some time early November. I had a telephone call from the dealer today to advise the door seals have now been manufactured and are winging there way from Japan to the European factory and will be available to Lister's end of next week! (this I may believe when I actually see it happen).

After all the rain we have had since November my car will smell like a soggy used dishcloth, I really hope they will change the carpet.

The delar has tried to "get me out of my car" by offering to buy my car off me and sell me another one....why would I want another leaky Aygo????? plus it makes it a really expensive door seal and the only person that would benefit from me buying a new car is Toyota.

The seal they have apparently manufactured is a drip trim and not a full door seal. I'm no mystic meg but I can see my car visiting Listers again before the years out with more puddles :ffs: :censor: :angry:

Is this the new seal that Parts King referred to? Mine is booked back in for 14/2 I'll call them tomorrow and will wait for the new seal if necessary. From closer inspection today, it seems that the drain holes in the rubber door seal dont actually function at all and act more like a siphon! ... but only on the one door.

Hi all,

Update on my situation:

The Aygo is now booked in for the w/c 25th Feb-the reason being that that is the first time a courtesy car is available. The garage, Shields Toyota in Hamilton, say that the car will need to be in for 3-4 days, as the carpets and back seats (!) will need to be potentially replaced. I asked if they had seen this before and mentioned that there were a lot of people on the 'net who had the same issue. The lady was a bit guarded, but did say that they had had one in before, and the problem was some vents at the back. I think this problem IS recognised by Toyota UK, but not on a public level, as they don't want a mass recall

So I have to wait a bit (my choice) and the carpets are as wet as ever but if you have this problem, get in the face of your dealer and dont get fobbed off :P I'll post back on any updates

I dont think Toyota would ever be worried about a mass recall, as it doesnt affect every Aygo, they will do whatever it requires to stop it from leaking. Like I said, there is a new seal AND fitting process which is a critical part of the modification

Hi,

I am also taking my car into the Sheilds toyota hamilton week commencing the 11th Feb 08 don't need a coutesy car as i'm learning to drive at the moment - Not that i'm goign to get much learning with my car in. At least they are taking about replacing the carpets and seats as my car was covered in mould. They must be more than aware of the sitution now and if we don't get a good resolve the next step is watchdog. The lady on the phone was lovely though so i hope that we can get this sorted asap.

I'll let you know the outcome.

Ok got the rear door seal replaced today, took them about an hour...which i was suprised at, then i got told the mechanic wasnt happy with some of the other seals and that i will have to bring it in again.

Also the mechanic apparently spotted something wrong at the top of the radiator which has supposedly been wrong since the car was produced (glad this was found but a bit puzzled as to why he was under the bonnet when it was just the seal being replaced lol)

Anyway theyre gonna have to have it for a whole day later on in the month so they are going to give me a courtesy car (guess what, no £10 charge, sounds like some people have been gettin ripped off there)

will keep u updated

Car went back to the garage today, complete with photo evidence of flooding and a request for compliance with up to date Toyota bulletins. Got a call back within the hour...new design 'door gutters' ordered as a priority should arrive 12/2, they will keep the car to ensure it dries out, replace carpet and existing door seals before fitting these new bits when they arrive. Courtesy car delivered to me at work until sorted out....Watch this space!

I have been reading this item Leaking Aygo. It's really worrying me because I just ordered a Platinum Aygo last week and have now read stories relating to these leaks you are having. It concerned me so much that I went back to see my dealer - Metro Gateshead Toyota. They introduced me to the Service Manager who said that because the Platinum Model was not launched until December 07, then I wouldn't have a problem. The problem is only with earlier cars. So should I cancel my order?

Reading this thread pre-purchase got me a bit worried, but I went and purchased a New Aygo Blue 57 Reg anyways and with our torrential rain over Xmas and New years, I kept checking the boot. Luckily nothing there. However, I noticed on the front passenger and driver door, where the door meets the car when it's shut, what looks suspiciously like water marks . Could it be condensation?

Anyone else had this problem or am I just getting paranoid? I haven't had puddles in my car but if it is water leaking in it's only a matter of time...

Cheers.... :)

I know I'm tempting fate here, but I got my Aygo Blue at start of Jan and I think it's rained every day since. Now over 1000 miles on clock and all the inside carpets are dry. I'm hoping its got all the new seals, guttering etc! I have however told the kids they cant open the back windows and I also get some good condensation on the screen on cold days so am still a little wary

Thats where the rain seeps into mine (07 Sport)! Hinge end where the carpet joins the interior moulding. Keep a close watch on it!!

Kingo

My Aygo had a strong solvent smell when the passenger door seal was sorted. Does the fitting process involve a lot of glue?

Grateful for any details of how to distinguish between original and upgraded door seals...?

At long last there seems to be an update on my door seals (well sort of). The door seal or drip trim as it is, has finally arrived from Japan or where ever it really was made and is now at Listers in Lincoln which isn't too bad it only took a mere 3 months for it to get this far

So can I finally get my little Aygo back????..........well erm actually no. The dealer had to telephone Toyota for proper fitting instructions and in order to fit the door seal properly the garage needs to be well more at normal room temperature and they can't get the temperature in the garage at Listers to that, !?!?!?!?

So they are driving my car down the road on Wednesday to borrow a heat booth (spray oven) for an hour or two so they can fit the door seals. Also they have changed the carpets and will keep my car nice and dry until next saturday when I can finally pick it up. Which suggests that for 3 months its been sat outside filling with water

Anyway I will be keeping my fingers crossed :ffs:

Took advantage of the good weather yesterday to clean Hugo and while I was at it I thought I'd try and see where the leak was. First I tried pummeling all windows and doors with the hosepipe- no leaks there. Tried the boot lid, even holding the hose up to the seal and running round the outside no leaks there. Then tried the rear lights on both sides from every angle- no leaks there.

I think what's happened is during the very heavy rainfall I've driven through some deep puddles and it's splashed up through the holes- touch wood, should be alright.

Just I thought I'd update for people who may be puzzled as to where their leaks are coming from. Beware the puddles!!!

When I had my rear bumper aff I noticed thet there are two vents with rubber flaps over them in the back.

The rear wheels have no inner tubs, so water and such that is thrown up by the wheels is splashed into the bumper.

I think it's definately possible the water ingresses trhough these holes when you drive through a puddle, especially

with the blower on full or the front windows opened, so pressure build insde the car that has to leave through the

vents, opening up the flaps that are supposed to seal them when the pressures inside and out are the same...

I'll see if I have any pictures of the car with the bumper off, I hope so,

but my batteries died halfway through my project, so I'm not sure...
