Leaking Aygo

How widespread is this happening?

It's really making me have second thoughts about getting my Aygo next week, if you get a leaky one are you basically stuck with it and endless repair attempts until the warranty is up?

Will be back to the garage again tomorrow.

Goodness.

Sorry to hear that.

I'm getting a little worried now, my Aygo's getting a new door seal on Weds, but it does make me think. I never took either of my Yaris' back for any problems.

Ok, the Aygo is a 'cheap to run & cheap to manufacture' car, but fundamentals like leaking door seals after it's been in production for quite a while, that's not good in my opinion.

I can understand your apprehension Matt303.

I read this forum before I bought the Aygo, so i knew leaks had been a problem for some, but I just thought "it won't happen to mine, it's an 2008 Aygo", & Toyota would have sorted all the problems by now.

How wrong I was.

Let us know how you get on Sue R. Fingers crossed. x

:( Well bought an Aygo Sport Diesel just over a year ago - It leaked and froze on the inside of the windscreen. Local Dealer unable to fix the problem. Toyota not interested. Dealer proposed a replacement deal but diesel discontinued. Offered me £7000 trade in on a car costing wellover £9000 new - some compensation! They tried to block my rejection of the car and to deny my rights under the Sale of Good Act. Eventually we just gave them the keys and walked away.

Now proceeding in the County Court. The Dealership has admitted partial liability but are sticking to their £7000 valuation! Unbelievable - they have the problem but expect us to stand the loss so they can just sell the car on at a profit!

Hoepfully we will get to an acceptable settlement, but probably not until we get to the Court Room door.

My advice - don't buy a Aygo. If you have one, check for leaks daily. If it leaks - reject it, don't accept anything less than the retail value (not the trade in value) and if necessary take the dealer to Court. Talk to your local Trading Standards Officer or the Citizen's Advice Bureau.

Here’s a question...

Does the C1 or the Peugeot 107 suffer from the same leak problems as the Aygo?

So far I havent suffered any sort of leaking problem with my aygo slate blue. Perhaps the problem has been fixed in the slate blue?

There are reports of the C1 leaking, I think there is a thread on the CityBug forum about it including the normal "I'm on my 4th set of door seals" type posts.

At the same time we've got a few at work and none have leaked yet (watch mine leak a sieve once I drive it away from the dealers).

I would have thought (and hoped) that Toyota would have solved this minor problem by now. The last thing anybody wants after spending £1000’s on a NEW car is wet mats, frozen inside windows, condensation and then the longer term issues of having a wet interior.

My sympathies to all damp Aygo owners :(

So the story goes......

I booked my Platinum in last Weds to have the passenger door seal replaced this morning.

When I booked it, I got a copy of the job sheet which stated on it : "Please check TOTSS for any modifications or new parts". I had said to the nice man in a suit that I knew it was a common problem, so that's why he added that to the job sheet.

I arrive at Dealers this morning (in pouring rain). Wait for 1.5 hours while they water pressure test my passenger door. It leaks they say. We'll replace the seal, & re - hang the door, as they thought it was 'off alignment'. Once finished, I drive to work in pouring rain.

Park the Aygo in open car park, 6 hours later I get in my car, & guess what it's leaked again. I call the Dealers saying that I'm bringing it back NOW.

Arrive at Dealers 1630. No one there from this morning (that i could see). I hand keys over & ask to talk to the man who sold me the car, as I wasn't happy. After 20 minutes waiting, a sheepish looking salesman arrives to chat to me.

I explain that I wasn't happy, & that I know it's a common problem. I start to discuss about refunds / not reasonable that it's leaking 6 weeks in...No answers - I am told to wait for the Service man to come & explain what is wrong - but no Aygo has leaked for them before (alledgedly).

The Service man appears, looking sheepish. He says: there appears to be a modified seal which we can fit. Now I'm annoyed, so I ask: "That wasn't a modified one which was replaced today ?". No Madam.

The man booked me in for a modified seal to be fitted on Friday morning, & they are going to fill my Tank up for free as compensation for fitting the same dodgy seal again & wasting my time today.

I just have this sinking feeling that I might have a DAMP AGYO, & I'm not happy.

My Love affair with Toyota is fizzling out rapidly.

Fancy trying to fob you off with an old seal  and when you take it back on Friday make sure the petrol gauge is flashing

So I took my Aygo back to Dealers this morning for Modified seal & free Tank of petrol.

Seal changed, modified one in. Forgot to fill my tank up, until i politely reminded them.

6 hours later, torrential rain.... Guess what? :crybaby: Leaks.

Yes, I'll be back at the Dealer tommorow.

If you're bored reading about this, sorry, but I want to share my experience, as I think this problem is more widespread that Toyota wish to think.

I got mine back again last Thurs, it went in again on Mon! They have fitted another new door seal (no different to the last one) to the passenger door, I've completely lost confidence now. As my carpets were deemed not to be too badly damaged they haven't been replaced (these are the 2nd lot). My car is 15 months old and has been back for the same problem 6 times now over the last 8 months. I'd love to hope that this may be my last post in this thread but don't hold your breath

I would find this very depressing if it were me  I think you have given your dealer enough opportunities to fix a product that is clearly unfit for purpose. You might want to get some independent legal advice - Citizen's Advice Bureau maybe - but, at this stage, I would be inclined to tell the dealer that you are proposing to reject the car in accordance with your rights under the Sale of Goods Act and asking for a full refund of monies paid. See what reaction you get and take it from there.

I sincerely hope you get this sorted. And not bored at all - keep the forum posted.

Hi Geoff,

Thanks for your post.

I went back to the Dealers yesterday morning, complete with letter of complaint for the Sales Manager & Dealership Manager.

I saw the Sales Manager as I walked in, & we had a chat.

They have taken my car in for proper tests this week, & given me a courtesy Agyo in the meantime.

I just wait & see.... Fingers crossed I can get this resolved one way or another.

Just to add to this discussion, my wifes 06 plate Aygo has had the leaks in the passanger rear footwell and I am on the fourth visit to the dealer.

On the cars fourth visit (each one, water tests and fixes applied) the dealer is 100% serious on getting this problem fixed for us. Previous visits have just taken a week. The car has been in the dealer for one month now. Lucky they have given me a courtesy car!

They are now testing the car with the bad weather we are having and still finding the issue.

My view on this water leak issue is that if they can not fix the issue they should refund, as a water leak like this does not just happen it has been there since day one.

I have tried to get the garage to take the car back but they will only give the now value of the car !!!! So I mean to keep pressignthem until the problems is resolved or they grow tired and sort a no cost fix to this issue.

Hope you all get your sorted.

Hi Anna,

Hope you get it fixed. If there is still a problem then you ought to give them at best a final letter setting out a final date by when you expect the leaks to have been sorted (say 7 days) after which you will be rejecting the car and expecting a full refund i.e what you have paid for the car - you are not expected to be out of pocket. Like I have said though. It would probably be worthwhile seeing your local CAB first. It certainly sounds to me that the dealer has had enough goes at the problem. :(

Let's hope they fix it which would be the simplest solution all round.
