My wife bought an aygo last year, 2nd hand from a Toyota dealership. It's the 1.0 automatic. Very happy with it until we started getting condensation problems... and upon further investigation. found several leaks. Fortunately we had an extended warranty with it, and the dealer took her in and performed several modifications as stated in other posts. (extra weatherstrips above door openings, new, glued in doorseals etc.etc). The repairs / modifications appeared fine.... until the other day. Boot carpet wet again...

I stripped the boot out, jack, spare wheel, carpet, side mouldings n'all. checked all around for water marks, none. I then set the hose gun on to try to replicate a moderately heavy shower. After giving the back end it bit of water, I looked from the drivers seat to see any drips. Aha... I believe I have found another possible entry for water. The rear wiper motor shaft which goes through the rear windscreen, is not sealed properly, the water gets past the grommet, drips on to the lock clip, and the drips down on to the boot carpet. Depending on the level of the car, the water wets the carpet accordingly. So, I have temporarily used bath sealant around the outer finials to the wiper shaft. Tomorrow, when it's gone off, I'll attempt the hose job again, just to confirm my suspicions. I'll keep you posted. I know, I shall end up having to take the rear wiper out, and refit it with some dum-dum, does any one know how the wiper cover on the inside of the car comes off? I can't see any screws? Is it just a push fit? I don't want to force it and break any clips, like I've done on my other old merc. Any info would be appreciated, thanks.

Had my 5dr Platinum since August 2008. Have had a couple of drips from the driver's door seal due to heavy downpours. Not checked the boot or tyre well. Similar leak was apparent in my previous Aygo Sport 5dr (2006-2008). Never experienced damp smells/pools of water/wet carpets in either. Car never garaged. Am tempted to give the car to dealer for some extended research in exchange for a courtesy Previa for a few weeks

This is probably the best summation ever of the Aygo.

And perhaps other Toyota's in the future as they try to cut costs :(

I would also like to point out to an earlier post that said the mechanics are useless and cant find the leaks - we cant spend all day on one job stripping/sealing/water testing/drying/stripping/resealing/water testing etc etc etc. You have to draw the line somewhere. Its usually the customers who expect the job to be done 'while they wait' and complain its taking too long or will come back another day when you are halfway through it! lol

Hey I'm new to this forum but I decided to sign up to tell you that I too have a leaking aygo. Mine is a 07 3door with a leak in the right side boot that still hasn't been fixed. Its been to the toyota dealership 3 times now and they don't seem to be able to locate a simple leak. Everytime they simply tell me they've redone the previous work and everytime it still leaks. Surely it would make much more sense (financially) to spend all day searching for the leak rather than at least 4, most likely more, seperate visits (2days at a time)? Not to mention my useless toyota dealership makes me wait 4-8 weeks at a time because they do not have enough courtesy cars. So that means the boot carpet they replaced...needs replaced again because its had 4-8 weeks more water damage. And I'm charged £11 a day for the use of a courtesy car while the dealership wastes mine and their time mindlessly 'repairing' my car which is under warrenty! It makes me rather angry!

The over door seals are similar to the stick on draught seals available for normal windows but in black! Very tacky. Fitted to the inside edge of the door frame above the doors. I had these fitted several months ago and the passenger door still leaks from the hinge side base of the door. Been back to Mr T twice since then. Hardly worth a photo but perhaps only for a laugh...........

Blimey, that sounds like desperation to me :( It's only a couple of stages from throwing a canvas cover over the car and recommending driving only in the dry. I find it hard to believe that Toyota can manufacture a car that has an inherent leak problem. If it's common across the C1, 107 and Aygo range you'd think that three manufacturers could get together and actually fix it!

I have to admit that, if I were in the market for an Aygo sized car at the moment, I wouldn't touch any of these models. With my luck it would leak like the Titanic and I just wouldn't want all the hassle. I really hope everyone with this gets it sorted soon. It's all very odd.

I once had a Rover 416GTi that all of a sudden let-in lots of water into the passenger side footwell - really deep as well. Being a tad practical I took a hand held drill to it - looked below - made sure no brake or fuel line were near and put a few 5mm holes through the carpet and the floor pan. After that I re-named the car "The General Belgrano".

Little did I think this last year that the wet carpet I found in my 2 and a half year old Aygo had been caused by a leak?

I was sure at the time it was the windscreen de-icer trigger bottle laid flat for too long!

I'm now not so sure it was the de-icer since come to think of it at the time I did not smell the fluid while the boot carpet dried out in my conseratory!

I'll be keeping a watchfull eye on the matter in future.

Thought I would add my tale of woe! Yes again I have noticed water in the passenger side front and rear footwells, and now on the right hand side of the boot, all carpets soaked but easily removed to dry out. Passenger door seal looks ok, but evidence of water passing over seal on camera for dealer to look at. Possible seal failure of drivers side rear lamp cluster. The lamp cluster is directly in the water flow from the boot lid gutter, so if that fails it passes into the interior. I have sent an e-mail to my dealership from where I bought the car and await a reply. Not keeping my hopes up but as an earlier post stated about the Yaris as reliable, I have had three and no problems. Bought the Platinum December 08, and apart from it being a sieve I have no other issues with it.

After seeing the state of the inside of our Aygo I decided to clean it yesterday. Noticed the rear carpet was ruffled up. Dry on nearside, but went to offside and there was white mould growing, lifted the mat which is rubber backed and it was wet as was the carpet. This damp had spread to under the driver's seat.

Tried to find where there was a problem by dusting with talc, closing the door and soaking the car, but no evidence after half an hour. It may be small drips which have built up over time.

Car is off to Mr T on Wednesday.

Hi, I have a 06 Aygo plus, which I have had for about 9 months now from New. But lately I have had a problem with it leaking water in. It started with a bad smell at first and the windscreen getting frosty on the inside, as well as out, then I noticed that the rear passenger footwell was absolutely soaking wet, and this was the source of the bad smell. I rang Toyota and it was booked in to see a specialist today, but just had a call saying they could find no leaks what-so-ever, and asked if I had left any windows open (must think I am that daft), which I said no. So now they want to keep it over night, so RRG mechanics, can have a look at it. Has anyone else had this problem with there Aygo?

Hi, we have an 56 Aygo and it too had water leaking into the car although ours was in the front two footwells. Toyota told us there was a known probem with the door seals and replaced them under warranty with new redesigned seals. No problems since. Hope this helps !

Positive report of dealership so far and they aren't seeing the car until tomorrow:

They have acknowledged it's a well known problem

They have ordered the parts so they won't need to look at the car first to assess it, order the parts then ask us to go back.

Had my driver door seals replaced on Saturday as a small amount of water was leaking in.

The service manager immediately thought it was the passenger footwell, but so far so good on that point. Not had any leaks anywhere else, don't really have leaks from the tailgate into the boot when open either.

Generally I'm very happy with the car.

I note that the aygo has just a single packing assembly whereas other cars have double packing :

I.E both on the doors & on the body where the ends meet.....maybe it would have been better to go for both.....increased cost maybe?

Last week saw the first rain since ours was 'fixed'. Checked it and water in the car. I lifted the seal at the base of the rear offside door and the seam was full of water. Obviously it's filling the seam then wicking into the carpet.

Car is back in today and all the door seals and a new carpet will be fitted later this week.

The current fix for leaking a Aygo at our place depending where leak is -

New door/boot seals,

New rear panel vents and gaskets,

New weatherstrip seals along the top of the door shuts to divert excess water away from door when opened,

Reseal/replacement of door/speaker recess membranes inside front doors,

Also if any mats, carpets are very wet they get replaced too.

I really like my Aygo, have had a leak every time it rains (lucky for me here in portugal it does not rain that often...)

They (Mr.T) have just replaced the extra seals stating that the previous ones were not on correctly. But I am afraid that when it rains again... it will leak once more...

There is a leak somewhere and it has wrecked by passenger side rear seat, it is visibly damp and the apholstery(sp?) has torn. Going to get it left in asap and i will expect it to be fixed under some sort of warranty because obviously a seal has broken.

The extra is a rubber gutter at the top of each door - it's raining today and the gutter was doing tis job and deflecting water down the back of the door opening. No sign of any water under the door seal at the base of the door either.

Leaving my car in to get look at tomorrow for the leak. Now, naturally they will prob try to charge me for the repair, so what should I be saying to make sure they don't try to screw me over? Seeing as the leaking was a quite widespread issue and the car is under 18 months old, is that all I need to say or should I take something off the website etc?

I certainly dont plan to pay for this. If I do Ill prob just sell the car to the dealership and try and get something decent 2nd hand that I can get and have most of the car loan paid off at the same time.

I don't think they'll try to make you pay anything - possibly a little if you are issued with a courtesy car but nothing else. I hope they manage to solve the leak

has been in the garage 3 times, and this last one since yesterday... they called me a while ago stating that the problem lies in the foam toyota uses to protect the OEM Speakers in the front... as it soaks in water when it rains, and drips onto the bottom part of the door seal. - They want to get a hard plastic protection cover for the Speakers, will be in on friday - Has anyone heard of these?? i think it would be similar to the adaptors that exist for the 1998 yaris (front door Speakers mount)

Honestly, I dont think thats where the water comes from... But then again, this is the last attempt I am giving them to fix the car... next leak , i will simply reject the car, and request a new one, or even my money back... i think the law is not the same here in portugal and in the uk.

I picked up my Aygo today, and have checked, the foam membrane that should protect the speaker has been replaced with a denser soft plastic cover, this one shouldnt soak in water, so in theory, it should solve my leaking problems. The old foam was black, this one is white, so they did replace an extra part! hopefully tuesday it will rain again, so further updates to be provided if and when available :) (would be great if the solution to leaking aygos is as simple as this..)
