Hi,

Wonder if anyone can help me. I have a '96 Carina E 1.6 estate manual and would like to know if anyone here knows where I would find the top up bung for the gear box oil and indeed if it is also the level plug, and what type of gear box oil should I be using?

Thanks.

The filler/check bolt are one and the same. It is on the side facing the front of the car. At a strech you can reach it from above. I usually remove the plastic engine guards and access from underneath. You will need a 24mm socket to remove the bolt. Topping up is with Multigrade gear oil SAE 75W/90

Replacement is 2.6lts every 36K miles or so.

BTW Carina E owners generally post on the TOYOTA FAMILY section.
