Petrol Tank Breather Pipe

Just had the Celica MOT'd again and again it flew through, the only comment they made was that the petrol tank breather pipe was heavily corroded but not leaking - However I know it is leaking! If I fill it up on a really hot day and go and park in the sun it starts dripping.

So I'll replace it in a few weeks.

So has anyone done it??

Is it an easy job to do - is it a replacement part that can just be fitted with ease or is it a tank out job, or is it even part of the tank??

Finally obviously it's a rigid steel pipe at the ,moment could I just cut the middle out and replace it with some flexi fuel pipe and a couple of jubilee clips?

I have to be honest that I haven't had a look at it yet - thought I'd ask the questions first as I won't get chance to look for a good few weeks.

Also if it is a case of getting a new pipe - is it just a case of getting it from the Dealer?

Cheers

Exactly what I did. Only problem was that the was rusted right up to going into the tank.

Cut a small length of pipe off the cutout section and fitted that as a stub into the tank, and rubber hose the rest of the way to the uncut section.

Thanks for the reply,

Was it all easy enough to get to? Did you have to drop the tank or was it all doable in situ - I still havent had chance even to look at it!

Cheers

All done in situ, jack up rear, stick on axle stands and remove passengers rear wheel.

Remove the liner exposing the pipes.

Then wearing goggles saw thru the pipe and attach the rubber fuel hose.

Best done when the tank is almost empty, to avoid any leakage. Also use a hacksaw not an angle grinder to remove the pipe
