Jap Or French?

The wife's D-4D has made in Japan on the top right of the windscreen. My W/2000 1.0 vvti has aftermarket glass (Pilkington). Is there anyway I can tell where it was made? Is there a difference?

its japanese, all phase 1 yari (1999-2003) were japanese, you can relax :)

Ooh why, French no good?

french cars arnt the best, so im sceptical about the french building a japanese car.

i prefer to know my car has been entirely built by the japanese, there are exceptions and friday afternoon cars which occasionally have troubles but its more piece of mind to me

I have never had a problem with the French built Verso either, all Yaris' cars seem pretty good built. Some rattling, but I guess the Japanese cars have that too.

sure they probably make all the glass in japan and then send it out to france and the other factorys, theyre hardly gona have glass making facilities in every factory. Is there a definite way to tell where your yaris was made? im intrigued to know.

I take it you're talking about a Yaris and not a Verso? I believe the FunCargo rattles as much, however I have no sources. Anyone here knows?

No they weren't.

My 51 plate Yaris colour collection (1 litre) was French.

I'd assume that with the French cars & Japanese cars being built from the exact same spec, they'll all be identical, knowing I had a Japanese 1 did make me feel that bit more confident in it though if I'm being honest. When I 1st saw the "Made in Japan" sticker, I wondered if I'd bought an import :bye:

Well yes. There's a lot of twaddle (I have to get around the swear filter somehow...) in this thread.

The only reliable way to tell is to check the VIN number. V (for "Valenciennes", I guess) indicates that its French-built and J means its Japanese.

I have owned both and there is no difference in quality or resistance to rattles (the Japanese P2 was worse than the French P2), but there are many differences to sheet-metal and OEM component parts.

Lol - Some cars rattle, some don't.

Some break down, some don't.

Variety is the spice of life, as they say. Don't believe the "French built Yaris' are krud" argument, cause Jap built Yaris' can suffer from the same problems too...

Anyways - back to the poor chap's original question...

The VIN number would be the best bet of trying to tell, if you are really that bothered...

Lol - Some cars rattle, they are Vauxhalls.

Some break down, they too are Vauxhalls.

Variety is the spice of life, as they say. All cars can suffer from problems too... but Vauxhalls are really bad

I really must agree with you there Gnomey ;)
