Non Interference Engines

Hi Folks,

Sorry if this has been answered before but does anyone know if the 1997/1998 Corolla 2.0L Diesel has a non interference engine (if the timing belt breaks the engine doesn't get damaged)?

I have been told that I need over £1000 of repairs, including timing belt repalcement, and the car is not worth that (very high mileage). I was hoping to defer replacing the belt as I am looking for a new car at the moment and the rest of the repairs are not urgent yet. Anyone got any advice/experience.

Thanks in advance.

The Diesel engine in a Corolla of this age is (I THINK) actually a Peugeot unit!

The previous shape (AE101 from 1992-97) certainly is and it's reputation in the Corolla was a disgrace (in fact very few were sold!)!

So my advice would be GET THAT BELT CHANGED!

you could always get the belt and change it yourself........it's a very straight forward job on a corolla !

Hello,

Sorry I cant answer your question.

Could I ask if a late December 2006/7 1.4 D4D diesel corolla has a timing belt or chain and what is the recomended change interval? Who is the engine made by in my French supplied left hand drive? Is it Toyota themselves or some other manufacturer? Many thanks James.
