4age Engine Management Quetion

hi,

i have an ae92 non-tvis 4age corolla gti which just cut out and died one day when i was driving down the road. i initially thought this was an ignition problem as i was getting no spark so i changed the ignition coil, igniter and distributor and checked all relavent wires for continuity and everything seemed fine but the car still wouldn't start. i have a few other projects on the go at the moment so i haven't really gotten a chance to check it out any further. But today i decided, just out of interest, to see if there was fuel pressure present and there wasn't so i thought maybe the fuel pump might be at fault.

anyway i was just wondering if anyone knows if there's a safety device programmed into the engine management system which cuts the spark if fuel pressure is low to prevent engine damage and that's the reason why i'm not getting any spark or is there any part of the system that is tied to both these areas which may be causing the problem?

thanks

Might not be the answer your looking for but ...

...recently, due to age of cars these days the wires (3 I think) going into the Map Sensor (mounted on bulkhead behind injection system area) are now starting to crack/perish/break. Two members last year suffered this with their GTi's.

Just a long shot and I may be way off with my diagnosis ?

Take a look at your EFI fuse in your engine bay fuse box. You should have I believe its a regular 15amp fuse (blue), could be wrong but its for the EFI and if the fuse is blown then you wont get any fuel. Happened to me once. Took a while to find the problem, hope this is your problem.

Map Sensor is located on bulkhead by where 'Strut brace' bolts (2 bolts) to bulkhead, it is just below the bolt nearest drivers side. It is a little black unit size 20mm buy 25mm with about three wires coming from it.
