D4d Fans And Overheating Light Question

My 125k mile D4D radiator fans have recently been coming on after 10/15 min. After another half an hour or so, the red overheating light flickers a few times and goes out for a while. My local Toyota dealer charged me £60 to tell me that it was a faulty water pump as the water wasn't circulating. My local garage fitted a new one, a new thermostat (tested in a pan of water), backflushed the rad and flushed the block and checked for airlocks....... and its still showing exactly the same symptoms. There is no evidence of cylinder head gasket problems - no loss of coolant or sludge or bubbles. Now suspicious about the sensors, but unlikely that fan and temperature sensors going wonky at the same time. The engine doesn't feel particularly overheated after the red light has been flashing.

Any thoughts??

Cheers

Thanks for the kind words, guys. My local garage called me this morning, having spoken to Toyota. The engine is apparently notoriously difficult to bleed and needs time/miles to bleed itself. But they also mentioned the dreaded cylinder head problem, even adding that there could even be a hairline crack in the block! Not sure why its happened now. The car has been great up until now.

Will advise as things develop.

Cheers

Jim
