I've got a T3. Thinking of getting Toyota to fit parking sensors and tint the rear windows (to level of TR) goona cost 750 in total and wonder if either are worth it.

ANyone got experience of the parking sensors and whether they work well day to day.

I had front and rear parking sensors fitted when I purchased a new verso recently and they do work okay you sometimes can get a false reading but on the whole they are not bad .

As for problems I had a dry joint on the rear sensors which made them inactive but that was sorted out in 15 minutes at the dealership.

You also have to watch out for dirt in the sensor which will give a false read also you are able to turn on or off

If you asked me if I was buying the car tomorrow would I still have the sensors fitted I would say yes

hope it helps

are they just bleep ones or do they have some sort of way of telling you which sensor is being activated.

what do you mean by level of TR?

what % VLT is that?

what I mean is that the TR has darkened rear windows and that is the level of tinting I want.

Please do not think I am insulting your intelligence by stating the obvious but if you are in reverse the rear ones are bleeping if in a forward gear the front ones are bleeping if you mean that by the bleep you can tell which side of the car is near an object I cant say I have not noticed so I guess not

Hope it helps

sorry, the TR spec must be a UK spec then. I'm in Ireland and we have different names but I've not seen any over here with tiniting in them. You will probably still have to go to a tiniting specialist which I'd recommend....if you bring it to Toyota they will only send it out anyway.

And they will still need to know what %VLT you want. Ask them for a few examples but we're thinking of getting ours done all around and I'll prob go for about 35%. Its dark enough to keep out the sun & prying eyes at night, but not too snoop dogg. During the day you'll be able to see in but not too good. Its a middle of the road compromise

as for which are bleeping I didn't explain myself very well. What I meant was if I only have rear ones can I tell whether the object is to the rear to the left rear or to the right rear?

As for tiniting sorry didn't realise you r weren't in England. Yes the TR is a T3 with more kit but less price (weird I know). Yes Toyota say they will bring someone in to do it so does anyone know any good tinitng specialist either nationally or in East Sussex?

I think they can charge what they like .Toyota were offering front and rear colour coded sensors for £550 fitted and sometimes you can take out a loyalty card which can give 10% of accessories which could save a bit .

The best thing to do is to phone round and ask what the best price they can do to fit the glass and the sensors they have to be competitive these days

You asked if you could tell which side the obstruction was ? I would say no! this is what happens as you reverse the sensors bleep intermintantly and the closer you get the bleeps get shorter until it is a continuous tone and you know you have to stop then

Hope it makes sense

thnaks £550 for both is good my dealer is asking for £400 just for the rears

If you go on the Toyota website and click on the verso build your car link you should see them advertised on a side banner also I got them a bit cheaper than that ! also I have seen them on a dealer website for £340 colour coded for the rear sensors

THanks for all the good advice.

Think I might go for front and rears and the tinting.

Final question: I took Toyota finance: all singed two weeks ago. (I got a really good deal equiv to bank loan) do you think they will let me add the costs fo the accessories to the finance - retrospectively?

I Don't know its best to ask the car salesman who sold you the original loan you may find you have a cooling off period in which you can cancel the loan and redo it with the extra added on but watch they do not charge you a cancellation fee.

if not there are plenty of cheap loans out there such as A+L,AA, and Northern rock for the extra cash.

Just one point I don't think it will add any extra value to your car when you trade it in again but for me it was the convenience of having the sensors but you may want to ask a salesman if it is worth spending the extra

hope it helps

Ben,

Here's a list I got of specialists in tinting from an old UK magazine I kept

Automotive Tinting: 01222 611304

Autoshades: 0181 715 1919

Custom Tinting: 01297 560651

Pentagon Auto-Tint: 0181 749 9749

Prestige Window Folms: 0121 585 0767

Ripspeed: 0181 803 4355

The mag is dated back to 1995, so chances are these area codes could be well changed by now and I'm not sure what part of the country they are, but I'm sure you could find out easier than me

is there anyone with front sensors fitted by toyota that can post a pic of the override switch.

Thanks

edit - btw one dealer says they can't fit front sensors to a T3 this doesn't seem likely or are they actually telling the truth?

edit number 2 - sorry this is becoming a saga now. My closest dealer finaly found the kit for front and rear TPA 800 apparantly and said we can do it but it is a nightmare as the front entails lots of wiring and having to establish how to indentify when they need to be on so it will be over £900. I pointed out website £550 and they said they didn't know about that. I called Toyota HO and they tried to fob me off with well cheaper to fit at factory. I said the web says fitted at your centre. So passed to customer relations who are investigating.

A couple of questions why are they so confused ? I feel that I need the front sensors because of when I park in car park or against wall at home I am finding it hard to judge where front ends. The front ones do you turn them on and off by the switch? Also if they haven't fitted one befoe am I better off just forgetting it and going just for rears.... or maybe an aygo :-p

The Verso I bought was on the showroom floor it had no sensors fitted .The sensors that were fitted by the dealer !I picked up the car a week later .

its no big thing to fit sensors I have even seen fitted sensors advertised in Halfords stores not that I am suggesting you get them fitted there but its no big deal any competent Toyota dealer should be able to fit them.

Regarding turning the sensors on or off you just leave them turned on all the time the only reason you would want to turn them off is if you are towing something there is a little on off switch near the electric mirror switch

cool I think from your earlier post you've got front and rear sensors is that right? Can I ask how much you paid to have them fitted?

Yes front and Rear the cost was £500 and were colour coded as in the Toyota advert

Also your Toyota dealer is bound to have at least one car about with the sensors so ask them to show you how they work then you can decide if they are what you want

i think this will turn out to be the difference..... they are happy to subsidise the fitting for new cars.

Send a few emails to Toyota dealers in your area and ask what is the best price they can do them for ! it costs nothing and you may be surprised ?if they want the business they will compete they agreed the price for the sensors after I had agreed the deal on my new car
