There is a thread on the Avensis forum regarding window tints I don't know if you saw it

ta I'll check... I've managed to get Toyota to move on the price but I noticed in the process they have removed the offer from the website.

As said before if you go for the TPA800 kit you do have the option of turning the front sensors off if required (by holding down a small button located on dash)

There is ALOT more wiring involved in fitting the TPA 800 compared to the TPA400 (rear only) kit. I have fitted 2 kits just this week (hilux&avensis)

The book fitting time is 3.3 hours so fitting charge at our place would be £270 ish!!

I think the kit itself is £400, maybe more.

You should ring around a few dealerships as the avensis set i fitted was sold to the customer for the same price as a TPA400 kit as it was ordered a few months ago for another job by mistake and needed to be sold ( customer was over the moon! lol)

Also with the sensors they can give false readings if there is any grit or dirt in the circular rubber part of the sensor but give them a good clean and all is ok. The TPA800 kit can also be run through a 'set up' process to suit them to certain models and can run a diagnosis test letting you know of any problems with sensors, wires, connectors or beepers!!

HI guys thought I would give you an update - had tinting doen and really pleased with it.

Sensors I managed to get TGB to match the £500 on the website. So all well with the world and really pleased with them. Already been useful on several occasions.

Hi Ben and others,

Thanks for the interesting posts. I am picking up an 04 Corolla Verso T3 on Saturday and want to have parking sensors fitted. I would really appreciate knowing:

  • whether the front sensors bleep when you pull up behind another car in traffic, or other similar circumstance?
  • whether the push button to switch off front sensors switches them off permanently or just while the button is depressed?
  • If the rear sensors are turned off also?

I will ask at the Toyota garage too, but all too often I have found you get incorrect advice if they don't know but pretend to, so would rather ask real people who have them!

Any other tips gratefully received.

Many thanks in advance, Rob.

Hello robketh

You will find the sensors are brilliant !! if the sensors are the TPA800 kit there is a switch ( just like a light switch) which will turn both sensors on or off you cannot just switch the front off or just switch the back off.

I have found in traffic it is not a problem as you are not near enough to make the sensor go off.

You may get a false reading sometimes if you are reversing downhill and there is a metal grid in the road .

It is important to keep the rings round the sensor clean as you may get a false reading .

How they work as you approach a object the sensor will intermittently beep and the closer you get the beep becomes continuous

Hope it helps

Hi Rob,

The sensors are pretty good but pretty expensive.

The front sensors are 'on' when you first start the car. The front sensors then turn themselves 'off' when your car reaches a certain speed (which i think is 11mph or so - its something around this speed anyway) you will notice the ligth on the switch will go off (the kit patches into a speed signal wire). When you then drop below this speed again the light will illuminate and the front sensors will be 'on' again.

The switch (push button) switches off the fronts only when you hold it in for a couple of seconds (light goes out). To turn them back on you simply press the same button and the light will come back on. They will also come back on when you have turned the ignition off then back on.

The rear sensors are only activated when the car is in reverse so they are 'off' when driving anyway. You can get a seperate switch that can be used to turn the rears off when towing if you like.

Fitted plenty of these kits to many different models. Sometimes they do go wrong, sensors/ecu but overall a good kit.

Mart. :)

Hello Mart

I believe I had the TPA800 kit fitted as that is what the instruction book said !! but I see no light on the switch and also once turned off they do not work again until I turn them back on !! perhaps they have changed specs since I had mine fitted .

I know that as you are a Toyota tech you must be correct as you are fitting them for customers so you must be right.

Anyway thanks for the input and I will go and have a look at them again maybe I have missed something ??

Edit

Just had another look at them and the switch just seems to turn the front sensors off the rear ones still works ??? and remains like that until I switch back on perhaps its the way the technician wired them up

BJW,

What is the 'switch' like that turns your front sensors off? As standard it should be a round push button type with a small indicator light in the centre. Also when you turn the ignition on there should be a beep, if you hold the push button down it will beep twice to say it is now off and the light will go out. If they have fitted a different type of switch thats got me stumped as not seen any other type fitted/supplied before.

Hello Mart thanks for your reply

Yes when the ignition is turned on you do hear a beep.

The switch is like a tiny light switch you press it down and it turns the sensors on (you leave it in a down position)if you want them off you press it up and leave it in an off position !!! I believe if you press the switch on or off to turn the sensors on or off it beeps once .

Hope that makes sense

I will have a look today to check I am right

Thanks

bjw

Hi Mart,

Thanks v. much for that useful info. Can I ask if you have fitted the TPA800 to the 2004 model? I spoke to my local Toyota parts dept and they said they didn't think it fitted. Looking at a Danish (!) web page it looks like they were an option on 2004 model.

Personally I would be happy for them to work as bjw indicated :)

Where are you based, Mart? If anywhere near Surrey would you like to fit mine?!!

Thanks again, Rob.

Rob,

Im not sure if they were available in 2004, the kits back then were just rear parking sensors (TPA400). The front/rear kits (TPA800), i have only been fitting these 2006/2007. The TPA800 kit 'may' fit a 2004 car - it all depends if the kit is now listed on the dealer EAPM for the model you have, they may still list TPA400. Im sure the TPA800 kit can be fitted to a 2004 car as it only uses +VE, +VE from reverse lamp, earth points and a speed signal which turns the front sensors ON/OFF at certain speeds.

Im in Stoke on trent so not close enough sorry.

Mart.
