2001 Avensis 2.0 Vvti - Can't Fault It!

I realise that forums such as this generally attract people who do have problems with their cars rather than those that don't so to some people coming here with problems it may look like the Avensis is a total dog. :(

Just wanted to pass on my experience. Bought my 2001 Avensis VVTi June 2004, took it for its first MOT (under my ownership) March 2005. Yesterday I took it for its 3rd MOT and like the previous two MOT's it sailed straight through! The garage I use for the MOT does the MOT only, I don't give them any other business, not even servicing! They do offer the usual garage services but I only use them for the MOT.

So, heading for my 4th year of owning this car it has had the following :-

Front pads x2 (approx. £35 each time fitted), rear pads x1 (£35 again), 4x front tyres and 2x rears (£110 a pair on average), one full service (£145 - non-Toyota garage) and 2x oil and oil-filter changes at National Tyres, £21 first time and had a £5 off voucher for the last one I did two days ago, £16. :)

I did have to buy wipers all-round early in my ownership (roughly £20) and these are getting close to needing renewal and I've had to replace both front dipped-beam halogens over the years (few quid each and grazed knuckles replacing the one covered by the Battery!) but apart from that, not a thing! Oh wait, correction! The drivers side washer jet ceased to function, turned out I needed to replace that. Little bit of plastic with two squirters, £16 from Mr T! Robbing b'stards!

Still, 25,000 miles down (coming up on 67,000 on clock) and tyres are good for a long while yet I just can't fault the car. Never ever lets me down, always gets hammered especially on 150 mile trips down the M1 and back a few days later, always at averages of 80-110 mph!

Being the 149bhp 2 litre it may not look like a firestarter but I've certainly given some of the big boys a run for their money in it over the years. :) And despite this abuse it just keeps going on and on! Sorry to ramble on, especially to those who are having big problems with their Avensis but just wanted to show that there are good aswell as bad out there.

My 1.8 has not missed a beat in the 10k i've owned it. The cars 3 years old this september and with only 19k on the clock know it still feels has good has the day i picked it up. My dad has had is avensis for 6 years know apart from the steering rack noise problem sorted under warrenty, and a new short block has been a cracking car. On the whole i'm very happy with toyota cars not to happy with there customer service so i use my work place for servicing. My dad has not had any problmes with toyota customer service strange since we used the same dealer. Come on toyota sort out your patchy customer service.
