I had my 56Reg Aygo sport for 6 months now and I have noticed both front wheel hubs and drive shafts started to rust. only these parts looks rusty brown all other suspension parts look as new. I have Alloy wheels and the rust shows through the alloys spokes and doesnt look nice :ffs: . Does anyone have similar problem? :help: I wash my car every sunday. Is this covered by the warranty? could it be faulty parts?

This is normal with all Aygos (and many other vehicle makes). The garage won't grant a warranty for this. I suggest you get some thick grease and lightly coat the drive shafts. Or you could do a proper job, by sanding these parts down and using enamel paint on them. Be careful not to damage the CV rubber boots

While you're at it, the enameling of the rear brake drums is not great, so i would also repaint those too.

as Adilmon has said - Toyota will not grant warranty work on these parts of the Aygo as they are not coated/painted from new.

I used to remove the wheels/derust the disc hubs and paint them black during the PDI but sales wont pay for it anymore.

I have noticed that alot of the newest Aygos are coming through with painted disc hubs.

Before i bought MY Aygo (new), I looked at a couple of used examples.

I noticed the disc centres were badly rusted.

I intended painting mine as soon as it arrived.

My car duly arrived and as the dealership had fitted free Sport alloys,

I decided to remove them to coppaslip all the wheel bolt threads and the hub / wheel

mating surfaces and torque them up properly. (I've had wheels weld themselves on in years gone by).

It was only then that I noticed My disc centres were painted.

This is on a '07 model.

I must admit, I noticed the bottom of the front strut was rusty but I'm waiting 'til the weather is warmer before I sort that and the driveshafts out!

This has nothing to do with cars being stock-piled for extended periods in fields etc. does it?

Posted

Paul,

The stock-piling may have something to do with a few of the Aygos but alot of the time we get them delivered with no rust. By the time they are PDI'd, Taxed etc etc and the customer picks them up they are quite rusty. I think its mostly to do with the fact that most of the underside parts arent coated or painted.

Thanks

It will be surface rust and not a problem - don't worry about it.

The Aygo is littered with manufacturing date marks so you can see if it's been lying around by checking these with date of registration. Ours was manufactured on 30 Nov/1 Dec 2006 and we received it in mid January 2007, so little time for it to have been stood anywhere - 3 or 4 weeks max.

i just had my rusty bolts on my alloys replaced--under warranty. Toyota said that this is prone to happen as the parts are not painted on production.

Thanks to all of you, I went to Halfords and found "paint on rust" paint. I was thinking of painting the drive shafts and suspension arm in black using this paint. has anyone tried this type of paint? it says on the tin that you can paint rusty parts without sanding or removing the rust. They also sell brake caliper paint (for high temperature). it is only available in red or yellow. I think it will look good in red since it started to lose its shiney silver color.

Aygo Sport 5DR in carbon quartz.

The front calipers only need cleaning from time to time. I don't think they corrode easily at all.

With the "paint to rust" paint, it is always best to use a wire brush or sand paper to remove any flakes and provide a good surface for the paint to stick to. If you paint dust, it will wash off like dust. This type of paint usually only means that no primer is required, rather than no preparation. Hope this helps

The parts will be worn out before the rust is getting a problem. The "paint on rust" is not always a good idea. It binds up moisture so that it will not dry as fast as usual. If moist get inside the paint it can get very rusty fast and you wont notice anything before it breaks. So be careful :)

Well spotted. I've have seen a manufacturing date of 10/3/06 on my Aygo and collected it on 15/4/06

Could someone detail where the manufacture dates can be found - I would like to add this info to the FAQ.

Thanks.

also got rusting wheels nuts on my aygo, but phoned up Lookers Chelmsford and they booked me in for next Monday to get them changed on the warranty, so I think those of you are not being offered it for free just pester it should work.

Simply remove the part and there should be a sticker (looks like it's from a pricing gun) on the reverse somewhere. I am making the presumption that only the larger parts, which do not have a serial number will have the date sticker on them. Also presuming that the stick is the date of manufacture, when it could be the date of assembley instead.

When I had the front bumper off of my car last weekend I found a tab with the

body number beneath and there was a sticker with a corresponding body number

and date of manufacture on the inside/reverse side of the bumper.

The date for the bumper was some day in may 2006, while I bought my car

september of that year. As the numbers for the car and bumper correspond

I would guess that the car was built/assembled around that time too...

Here's a pic of the tab:

I have to take of the bumper again within the next couple of weeks,

if I remember I'll make a photo of the sticker on the inside too...

I dont think the manufacture date and the date you pick the car up will be too far apart....

......

......not like the new Celica GT :P ;) lol

My car wasn't built to order; the dealer had it in stock, as it's a "Black" which

they were promoting at that time. Because of that I could have it within a week

instead of more than 10 weeks it now takes between ordering an collecting...

I was meaning the fact that the new Celica GT's are actually built in 2003/4

Compared to these the Aygos havent been standign for long, if at all :)

Had the bumper off again today for fitting my airhorns underneath, so I took some pics

of the various date stamps I could find. The little green stickers are scattered all over

the place, but have become quite hard to read due to aging/fading of the iink on them.

Also in most DieCast-pieces like the bumper, tank and fuel

filler neck there are "datewheels" stamped into the plastic...

Here's the pics I promised;

so i went to chelmsford toyota to get the wheel nuts replaced...

went back 6 hours later to find they had done bugger all except wash my car.

turns out no wheel nuts are in stock in the whole country for the aygo, so they reckon over a month to get new ones...clowns

i can tell i was not happy, wasted a whole day, didn't get a courtesy car so had to taken to and from my home by one of their staff, for what nothing!!

why couldn't they check before I handed the car in, you know what they even took the wheels off and everything before the mechanic realised he had no wheel nuts, even though they put an order in apparently last week when i called, does no one check stock reguarly these days?!

i'm starting to lose my patience with toyota after care, good cars, lousy dealerships

This has happened plenty of times where i work.

Service agree there is a problem, raise jobcard to get parts to order whatever is needed. Reception make an appointment for customer to bring car in. They never bother to check if the parts are in yet or not. Parts dept dont liase with reception/new cars/service etc!

When the car is bought back in mechanic starts off job and then parts tell them they havent got the stock!

I dont see how they could ask you to leave the car with them all day for 16 wheel nuts either!! That is a joke in my book as it should only take 5 mins max as the car doesnt even need to leave the floor!! Unless a VSR needs doing, even then a VSR should only take 10 mins or thereabouts.

At least they washed your car 8-)

yeh i know!!

well it would appear the japanese ethos of efficiency in all stages of production etc doesn't really wear off on our british dealers.

nevermind.

however yesterday i noticed some mechanical parts behind the wheel were completey rusted over, no idea what they are just that they were. can anyone shed any light on this?
