Aygo Black 07 - Proper Lovely

Just thought I would add my opinion onto this part of the forum - especially for anyone wondering whether to get an Aygo who knows sweet FA about cars and just mainly quite likes it cos it's cheap nad has funky brake lights!

I'd been driving a '96 Nissan Micra for years, so my expectations of any car aren't that high, but still didn't want to feel like I'd wasted my hard earned cash, and was originally going to go for a new style Micra instead (despite it's dodgy "I'm just like a VW beetle really" styling).

But I'm really glad I went for the Aygo, it's so much smaller and nippier in town, or for parking (especially on my road) it's great. I drove up to Scarborough last week (about a 3hour trip) and it totally held its own on the motorways, cruising at 70, and a little bit in reserve for overtaking. Yes it wobbled a bit in the wind, but not to the extent that I feared for my safety, or had to grab the wheel with white knuckles just to keep control, so I don't mind!

When you accelerate from traffic lights and stuff, it feels very powerful, like it's got a good grip on the road and you could zoom away with the best of them. And its got a really nice throaty growl (something I never thought would appeal, but is definitely growing on me - I feel like I've saddled a wild beast!) I really notice a difference from my old car while cornering, as the aygo goes where I want it to, it feels suctioned to the road, and has a tiny turning circle - whereas my micra always felt a bit like it was gliding along and might just glide off into a hedge at any given moment!

The power steering is really light, and that took some getting used to (hedges again...poor paintwork!) but now I love it.

Despite the non-glove box there's loads of space to store stuff in the aygo, and the fact that it' all on display does mean that I'm much better about taking my sat nav and ipod out of the car rather than just shoving them in the glove box. As the aygo does have such a poor breaking in rating, it's probably best all round to have open displays so you can show to all the thieves out there that you haven't got anything worth nicking - and the important thing is that the stealing off with it altogether score is pretty high for such a dinky car.

For ipod users I would def recommend the Auto Kit as it makes a huge difference not only to the volume level, but also to the sound quality, and Belkien also do a funky little ipod dockthat fits in the cup holder, so everything is kept neat and tidy!

The main quibbles I have is the Toyota trademark 'seat doesn't return to the old place when you let someone in the back' thing - which as I give lots of lifts on a regular basis does get a tad tiresome, and that the uber-cool shark's tooth stuff they make the dash out of doesn't like my sat nav holder which refuses to stick on for love nor money, so is now tastefully gaffer taped to the spot! Mmmmm! The boot for me isn't a probelm as I can easily get a week's shopping in, and the fact the car tails off instead of having an extra big sticky-out boot means you can get into tiny parking spaces - same with the dinky bonnet. I only ever kep half my wardrobe and a spade in my boot anyway!

The space nside is much bigger than expected, and I can fit 2 people, a huge keyboard and amp in with ease - better than the micra, which was actually longer.

And of course the running costs are second to none. For my trip to Scarborough and back it took me 1/2 a tank of petrol in total...that's like £15! The train would ahve cost me over £80. It's a black day for public transport everywhere.

So yes, I'd very much recommend the aygo - if you want an incredibly smooth ride, huge boot and doors that shut with a star trek sigh, then get something else which is hideously expensive, but I wouldn't swap mine for anything. I've had several comments about how funky it looks too from total strangers, so hoorah for that!

Now, if I can just find out which little ***** decided to bash the rear panel in with a brick and run over his feet several times, I'll be a happy bunny! :D

Glad you are loving the car.

The Aygo is a great little car and does exactly what it was set out to do..provide cheap and no frills motoring. Those who are dissapointed were perhaps expecting a larger supermini which i do not think this car is. If yu want that get the Yaris or better still the Fiesta/Mazda 2 et al.

Not sure i can recommend anyone to buy one new now tho if they do not have a car to scrap. At £9500 approx for an Aygo Blue/Platinum, it's strong money indeed. :(

The again, so is most of the Ford range - A Focus is more expensive than the Golf!!!!

Hi I think the last posting did not go. All C1s and 107s come with rusty discs and wheel parts. Why I do mnot know. Have you looked underneath or had a wheel off. The Aygo's do have a worse leaking record.

All disks will rust if they are iron, having said that the Aygo ones are pretty soft and prone to lipping.
