Yaris/aygo

I have been researching... I have read that the 1.3 Yaris is capable on the motorway (more so, than the 1.0)... how quick is it, in an everyday situation?

I drive from London to Cornwall faily often, but mostly don't get above 40/50. I would quite like something with some punch, but, being 20, and not so affluent, I can't have the best of all worlds, lol.

So, what I'm asking is, how good are the yaris engines at doing town/motorway respectivly?

...and would you say they are better suited (or, less so) to these conditions than the Aygo.

I'm kindof debating between the two. The aygo being sexy as ubik, but, having some practicality issues.

Oh, and congrats on a good forum. Some nice looking Yari about :D

The 1.3 is actually fairly nippy, its a noticeable difference to the 1.0....

I'm on my 2nd 1.3 Yaris and I had a 1.0 hire Yaris and although the 1.0 wasn't sluggish by any means, the 1.3 just had that little extra pep...

The Aygo is a lighter car so perhaps the less weight will make it feel a bit peppier but if I were you, I'd get a Yaris - more space, more speed (if only slightly so!)

Acording to what car, the derv Aygo is slower...

Forgive me if I'm wrong.

Haven't got a clue just thought that the 1.4D in the yaris or aygo would be quicker than the 1l aygo/1.3l yaris - might be worth asking in the aygo section the difference between the 1l petrol and the 1.4 diesel

Diesel

It will also give you that extra bit of grunt

Either in the aygo or yaris ;)

I'm going to speak to Les and get your name changed to "Diesel Dave":lol:

Everytime someone asks something you pipe up "Get a diesel"... do you get commission on every diesel you sell from the diesel committee or something?

Depends on how often you drive the long distances.

Some good advice given to me. If you're doing in on a regular basis, look at diesels.

Otherwise, the 1.3 yaris is an economical petrol, and capable of the M-way journeys.

Saying that, when I had my 1.0 yaris, I was doin a trip to London once a month, and going to rallies down the south west and up in the midlands several times in a year. Just fine if you want to cruise at 70/ 75 on the M-way.

I; however, ignored the advice, and got a very thirsty V6 petrol. Not the best choice tbh... :D

I say diesel, and I also say go with the Toyota engine in the Yaris rather than the PSA engine in the Aygo. I know they're both 1.4 engines but that's about where the similarities end.

You'll also appreciate the sturdiness of the Yaris on longer journeys. The Aygo was conceived as a town-based car whilst the Yaris is a bit more jack-of-all-trades. I've had mine to Germany and most of the way down France whilst starting significantly further north than you!

Hope that helps,

Alan

PS Watch that Aygo lot btw - they're like ruddy piranhas if you say the wrong thing!

i drive a 1.0 yaris and have driven a 1.0 aygo. neither are competant motorway cars. the issue is more get to the desired speed and overtaking which often requires a change down of a gear. i would think the 1.3 is a better bet and its not that much more expensive or costly in general. just makes driving that little bit more relaxing. i often find it hard to find a gap to overtake if its busy as there isnt the speed available.

Having driven a 1.0 Aygo for a week and owning a 1.4D4D Yaris, the Yaris is the better car by 100x. The Aygo was nervous, twitchy, and my mum said it felt like being in a go kart at speed (50 mph+). The Yaris is composed, and having just driven to Wales and back from East Anglia in mine without a glitch, I have to say its suited to towns, motorways, and traffic jams, coping with all without a problem. I would say if you get a Yaris, opt for a T3 or a T Spirit because you get quite a bit more kit than the T2. I have driven a 1.0 Yaris, and although it wasn't great on the Motorway it was more than capable in the City....

Just to add my road fund for the year is £50.... and I get 60 to 62 mpg out of it average!

I just came back from Cyprus, where we rented a P3 Yaris 1.0, and it felt dead compared to the P1 Yaris Verso 1.3 we own in Norway, especially on motorways. In my honest opinion, 1.3 works better in town and city use too, it's more of a complete package, by far.

To underline how fine the 1.3 is on motorways, We've been to both Spain and Ireland with it, clocking up over 15.000 miles on foreign motorways, no problem whatsoever, and I find myself over the speedlimits with my car on motorways all the time, the 1.0 had problems sticking to the speed limit.
