Celica Gt Questions

Hi All,

I've just bought a new* Celica GT.

Anyhow I have a couple of questions about the car:

The rear spoiler there is a cover plate that appears to be covering a brake light in the spoiler. Anyone know why this is and can it be activated easily?

You can see it in the picture here if you look closely. http://articles.motortoday.com/news/CelicaGT/CelicaGT-2.jpg

Seems a bit crazy since the spoiler blocks the view of the brake light in the back window!

Also the steering is height adjustable but I read somewhere it can be adjusted for reach too, is this correct since I can't seem to find a way of adjusting for reach.

I was a bit disappointed that the on board computer doesn't compute MPG or distance until you need to fill up so I'll have to manually calculating this. What kind of MPG do people get from this car (or the T-sport which has the same engine).

Are there any kits to add reverse parking sensors, if so how much? Since the rear viability is pretty bad for parking. Plus it might make some use of the annoying "you are in reverse" beep! :ffs:

Lastly anyone had any issues with speed bumps? Not encountered any yet so a bit worried about beaching or removing bits from under the car! :D

Thanks.

*well new as in 6 months since registered and 30 miles on the clock.

Pic doesn't want to work for some reason, although thats probably my crappy work net connection. I think you're right - there is a break light in the spoiler of the G7 GT. I assume the cover just needs pulling off...? No idea why its there though...

Stearing height is adjustable, but not the reach (unless they changed it specifically for the GT, which I very much doubt).

MPG, kinda depends on how much fun you have in it! Standard driving, I reckon you'll see around 300 - 350 miles to a tank. If you spend most of your life foot to the floor at 6k rpm plus, you may go as low as 250.

The "You're in reverse" beep is very annoying, right up until the point where your sat at lights, haven't realised they've gone green, and all of a sudden you're in a rush for first gear.... Its saved my rear bumper a few times! As for reversing kit, I guess a local car electrics place would put one in for a couple of hundred. I'm sure Toyota'd happily put one in for you, but I have no idea how much. And if you fancy DIY, Maplins do (or at least used to) a kit for very little money (£30 - 40, maybe?). Or you could just learn to park it properly...:lol:

And finally, you shouldn't have any probs with speed bumps, as long as you don't go at them too hard, or try to straddle those half-hearted 'lump in the road' efforts. Things you should watch out for though, pavement edges if you're parking front end on to a curb, and multi-storey car park ramps. With the GT front lip and the 30mm drop, there is opportunity for scrapes there.

Hope you enjoy your new motor, and welcome to the club!

haha, just noticed your location!! None of the speed bumps around Derby have caused me problems, and the only car park ramps I thought I might have probs with is bold lane / park safe. If you do go in that car park, watch your wheels on the curbs on the way in. I've found if you line up the right edge of your hood scoop with the pavement edge in front of you, your wheels have just enough room all the way round.

If you see a Black G7, with OZ Super T's, and a red Celica logo on the boot, gimme a flash, eh?

Hi,

Thanks for the reply, a better picture of the spoiler picture is here:

http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/images/front_...oto_20600_5.jpg

I need to see if the light actually lights up with the other brake lights but I've not had the opportunity yet since its not that easy to depress the brake pedal and be stood behind the car at the same time! (guess a toolbox on the pedal will fix that).

If it needs connecting up and the original centre light in the rear window disconnecting I'm sure I can get the garage I just bought it from to sort something out. After all at night the reflection of the rear window light on the spoiler is a bit distracting! :(

As for the MPG thing, I've worked out that one segment on the fuel gauge is about 1/2 a gallon (55 litres / 20 segments = 2.75l ~= 0.6 gallons) so Im getting almost 30 mpg currently. Could be worse I guess!

As for speed bumps thanks for the advice, although I am going to be visiting Hull, speed bump capital of the UK  And bold lane is a pain to get in and out at the best of times, why they have massive speed bumps inside the gates and a stupid sharp turn is a mystery to me!

If you see a Black G7, with OZ Super T's, and a red Celica logo on the boot, gimme a flash, eh?

Well I'll keep my eyes out, mine is the same colour as in the picture (Thunder grey I think its called).

Thanks

GTs are ok over most speed humps if you take it slow. Trouble is going slow, the noise at 6000rpm is addictive!

UPDATE:

I asked Toyota the deal about the rear spoiler and 3rd light in it and got this efficient and prompt reply,

Thank you for your enquiry regarding the Celica GT. The rear spoiler is a part originally designed for the Japanese domestic market where such brake lights are permitted. Within the EU legislation prohibits the positioning of a 3rd brakelight in this position, therefore it has been covered over.

so there you go!
