Ipod Connector Kits For 58812 Radio

I've seen a few posts suggesting I should be able to fit a Dension Ice Link to my 2004 Rav4

However, the various websites I've checked don't list my radio as compatible althouh some older posts would suggest it has been done with my model (58812) and fully functional, including steering wheel controls

Can anyone confirm if this is possible and, if so, exactly what's involved in a DIY installation?

Thanks

Just read your post, I fitted a Dension to my 58812 (2003 xt3), the first Unit Dension shipped was faulty which gave me some concerns over compatibility but after some shocking customer service I got a new one shipped and it worked first time, steering wheel controls and all it took minutes to fit. Well worth it.

I got a cradle with mine but you hardly ever touch the Ipod as all the track listing are displayed on the 58812 anyway. If I were to do it again I would get the cable and run it to the centre console. This means you don’t have to worry about taking the Ipod out every time you leave the car.

Any questions just ask.

Paul

Thanks Paul

In real 'idiot' terms, can you explain how you go about fitting it, eg. do you have to take the radio out, is there any kind of 'set-up' needed, etc, etc. I have no experience of this sort of thing

Thanks, Dawn

Unfortunately you will have to take the head unit out, but it is very easy. I had never done it before but there is plenty of advice on here about taking it out. I can point you in the right direction if you decide to do it. The Dension comes pre configured so there is nothing to do, just plug it in to the CD multichanger space. I assume you don’t have a cd multichanger., if you do then things get a bit more difficult.

If it helps I wouldn’t be without it, it is great being able to take your music with you.

Thanks Paul

I do have a multi changer so just a question of tracking down the right Dension now as the sites I've tried don't list my radio model - then persuading 'other half' that he can do it! Where did you get yours? (shocking customer service borne in mind!)

Hi Biton – I could not find anything with the model on, if you go to any website selling the Dension if offers you 2 choices, depending on the head unit you are attaching it too. For mine 58812, then the version with 12 pins 7 + 5 was the right one rather than the 12 pins 6 + 6 pin configuration which I think is for newer model head units

Hi Dawn – I got mine from http://www.caraudioplus.co.uk, . I am unsure how it would work with a multichanger unless you can scroll through the devices by pressing the disc button. I don’t know if anyone else on here has done that. Best of luck.

I got one from eBay, and fitting was simple. take out the radio, and plug in.

I also bought a £2 (+ £2 p&p) universal "dashmount" and mounted it low down on the dash, by the ashtray. It's not tilted up as much as I'd like, but it's better than the real dashmount that sticks out of the side of the radio.

I can get pix if req'd

Jon
