Clunk?

Hi all, i had a look at a few 205's from a place called D McMinn car sales, and i would advice people not to go there. This person is selling jap imports, from the drive in what appears to be his house. He had no auction sheets or any kind of paperwork for any of his celicas which i found a bit concerning. All of them were shabby and had bad paint repairs. I took one out for a spin and i was quite dissapointed, it just didn't feel all that quick, it won't put me off though, (hope it was just that one). What concerned me the most was the speedo wasn't working.

What i was supposed to talk about was that i've seen a 205 for sale with a suspension knock over speed bumps, does any-one know of any known problems like this apart from the usual fig 8's and lower arms. Possibly top mounts? or somthing more serious. Cheres for any info

Hey Jiffy,

I'm a new GT-Four owner and I've recently just bought mine from McMinn's. I got it 2 weeks ago when he actually had a garage but he was just about to move properties, which is probably why he was operating from his house. I'm guessing it's just an interim solution.

When I was there he had a few GT-Fours and as you said, some looked pretty abused, resprays, torn interiors etc. Mine was pretty clean, my brother in law knows his stuff and checked it out and it seems decent so far! Comes with warranty etc, but as you said, there wasn't much paperwork or documented history.

I guess I got lucky at McMinn's, although he did have some tat there!

Sorry, can't help with the clunks

Hope everything goes well with yours, hopefully no nasty surprises in the future mate.

If the speedo doesn't move at all, then the car would have gone into safe mode and limited the boost massively. My GT4 had a dodgy speedo when I bought it and the boost would be much better once the speedo actually moved!

i have just been looking at the new posts and came across this on the supra site which might be helpful

seems like hes having the same problem

Few possibilities

Loose suspension top mounts

worn top mounts

lower subframe bolts

loose front brake pad (caused the same thing you describe above on one of my mk4 supras)

worn roll bar drop links

ball joint

blown shock

If i was you i would jack it up and wiggle everything to test for play.

That's a huge relief about the lack of power due to the speedo not working, i was sure these cars had more power than what i experienced when i drove this one, and the boost gauge was moving throughout the dial. (just out of curiosity do you know why it limits boost when the speedo is not working) Chers

Not 100% sure, maybe because the ECU cannot trace that the car is actually moving, i'm not sure... but when mine used to suddenly start working you get a fair old shove in the seat ;)
