Towbar Again!

We have just fitted a detachable towbar to our new RAV, but find that the actual bar is rather a loose fit in its socket and clunks horribly when the trailer bounces over bumps in the road.

Also, the bar is lockable, but the little lock is already defunct.

Has anybody else had similar problems?

if you try and fit ball by turning knob it wont click in far enough. just push it in and it should click in and

the red indicator should turn green then you can lock it in position to remove unlock push knob in and turn

anticlockwise. if when fitted indicator shows red its not fitted properley and will move. just checked mine

and it is solid when indicator shows green

Thanks very much! That's done it. I was being too gentle and fiddling with the knob when putting the bar in. When, as you suggested, I just shoved it in firmly it all worked as it should. Now I feel a little silly but I'm glad it's sorted. My excuse is that there were no instructions for use with the unit.... We only tow a 600kg caravan but wouldn't want it to come off at 70mph!

My parents are buying a 2.2 D4D and will be towing a 1100kg too. Do you find your RAV a good towcar for that sort of size/weight of caravan?

with about 80kg on jocky wheel we find its perfectly balanced. will pull in 6 gear from 2000 rpm

and hills are no problem. i used to borrow mitsubishi L200 but find rav to be faster uphill and stable

at speed.
