Tx-3 Sat Nav System Question Help Please !

Hi Guys.

Firstly i'd just like to say hi as i am a new member after just purchasing my Toyota Avensis TX-3.

It is the first Toyota i have ever bought, and i must say i am loving the experience thus far...

I do however have my first question regarding the Sat Nav System.

I purchased the car secondhand from a local car dealership (non Toyota)

it is a 2003 (03) Avensis TX-3 Semi Auto 2.0 vvt-i

The car has a sat nav screen that comes out of the dash board at the top by pressing a button, and a dvd player under the passenger seat. the dvd that was in the player is labled

DVD NAVIGATION MAP

EUROPE

Ver.1st / 2002

82671 - 24121

I would like to upgrade the dvd to a newer version.

Question 1.

What model of sat nav system do i have ?

i'm pretty sure it's not the TNS200 but i can't find the info anywhere, i presume it's a factory fit option, i have managed to find a picture on the net, here is the link

http://www.channel4.com/4car/road-tests/T/...?noforward=true

Question 2.

What is the latest dvd i should be asking my dealer for, and also will it update the system ie: firmware etc or will it just have maps on. ?

Question 3.

is the firmware available on the net to download or can the dealer do it for a cost ?

Question 4.

The DVD player under the passenger seat, is it specifically for the sat nav disk or can it send any dvd signal to the screen ie: a movie ??? i know this may sound stupid, (you can stop laughing now), but i am interested in learning about my motor LOL

any help from the forums would be much appreciated

Kind Regards

Jas....

Answers to your questions.

1:. You should have the TNS300 (same as my 04 t-spirit)

2:. Latest DVD is 2006-2007 Ver 1.

3:. I think the DVD updates the software. When I put my new disc in for the first time it definately updated something since it took a while to boot.

4:. No idea, why not try it? Don't think it will work since not seen a DVD Video logo anywhere.

Get your DVD updates from here.

I ordered mine Easter Sunday and it arrived the following Wednesday by DHL. Delivered cost on my credit card was £111

Absolute bargain since its hugely more uptodate.

Hi Guys thanks for the reply's

I havn't yet purchased the DVD but am going to this week, just some info for you from Pinkstones Toyota in Stoke On Trent.

I asked them what was the price of the latest dvd for my system and here is what is printed on the quote from their parts counter.

SAT NAV DVD ROM TPZ445-T01EU-06

£102.34

£17.91 VAT

TOTAL £120.25

i have been reliably informed by parts that the disk is a next day collection from them.

Just thought i'd inform you on the costing now of the latest version.

I haven't a reply but more a question. Our Avensis (2002) has radio and Cd - both now not working. The satnav is working but only on the one current destination - we cannot change it because the volume/control knob is inoperable. Is there any easy solution to this problem or is it likely to be one of significant cost as indicated by the dealer.

Thanks Irene
