Pump Or Bleeding?

Hi all,

I noticed that the break pedal has to be pushed quite thru and thru to stop my yaris ts. I was wondering if that could be the break pump or just the system needing some bleeding? Has anyone got similar problem? My yaris has now 60k miles and no relevant problems, cheers, paalo

Is it the same from the begining or it just happened recently? On my TS I have to push it quite thru to stop the car and on other TS I've tested it worked similar.

It's definetely a recent thinghy. My yaris has just passed the MOT. Mr T has adviced to replace the rear discs and the rear pads have not been replaced but no notes have been made about the breaking system. The thing is i feel a bit unsafe becuase i wldnt be able to stop the car in an emergency situation. I realized it yesterday at a roundabout when i found i had to apply full strenght on the pedal to stop the car and the car didnt even stop! Bottom line is i dont want to take the car to a garage to be told : yeaa u need to replace the punp...! Maybe it's just some bleeding it needs plus new rear discs and pads? I didnt find any posts here about breaking problems on the yaris ts!

Does the brake pedal feel firm when you press it? or does it feel spongy?

You should't wait with this or you hurt yourself!

Check the braking fluid and also check if there is no air in the braking hoses. Any decent garage should help.

I would get them bled first - it really does make a massive difference. Cost me about 17 quid to have them done a couple of weeks ago.

...yea spongy is the feeling. basically i need to pump up on the pedal to keep it, say, lifted up and having a moduled breaking. I went to my local garage and chap said that replacing rear discs and pads and liquid sld be enough. However the yaris has never had a good breaking system isnit? and i read in many places the pedal tend to go spongy esp under pressure etc. The new yaris is the opposite, it stops the car as u touch it...it's the passenger nightmare ;)

In the meantime for your own and others safety.............................. it would be best not to drive your car with brakes in such bad condition.

My Yaris brakes brilliantly... I recommend some Goodridge Braided Brake Hoses and Motul 5.1 Brake fluid, makes a big difference to the feel of the brakes and their resistance to fade.
