1.4 Vvti Fuel Consumption & Acelerator

hello,i just bought a corolla, and very comfortable and light to drive it is too, but why does the accelerator seem so sensitive? it always revs up when changing gear quite unlike any other car ive had.

So on my first use, the fuel computer said 49.7mpg on a 150mile run, (not using the brakes much), and only one0-60 test sprint, that beat my306 diesel by 3mpg (and the petrol fuel is cheaper). I expect to get 55-60 tomorrow with a little slip streaming along the motorway.

would like to know the best mpg youve got

thats all for now folks,

When I first bought my 1.4 after service / oil change I was regularly getting average up to 46mpg on 15" steelies and Dunlops. Mixture of country roads, motorway and town.

This decreased as time went on, and took a dive when I fitted alloys to below 40. Has increased again after service, maybe +10%. Considering 6 monthly oil changes, as changing the oil deffo reduced consumption.

1 year on just after service / oil change with 16" T-Sport alloys and Toyo Proxes I'm getting average up to 42mpg...

Oil age and tyre compund will make a difference.

My consumption was based on Litres of fuel to mileage, the trip computer is usually close, but not 100%.

the accelerator seems sensitive especially at the initial touch. The car jumps from the engine power and it seems like is has loads of power on reserve...but not so...later on the accelerates very linear. when you change gears the ECU gives the engine a small burst of throttle...part of the VVT-i system i think.

I can say that the car is quite agile on high speeds...and low speeds....not so in mid range due to the small engine. it am still amazed how it accelerates past 140kmph up to 190kmph,

oh and btw 400miles out of a full tank nt bad either

i could only do about 180 for half tank... which means around 360 for whole tank... probably it's time to do the full service, i did that when it was 73k and now it's nearly 87k
