Spare Tyre Warning

Just a word of warning to anyone with a 4.3 that carries a spare wheel.

I checked the tyre pressures on mine the other day and had a surprise when I found the spare had 57psi in it. I presume this is how it came from Japan but you should check yours as fitting it in that condition could cause very poor handling.

Cheers

Coincidentally, I checked my spare (the one on the car, not my waist) a couple weeks ago and it, too, was high - almost 50psi. The pressure it was at was fine to seat the tyre but not one I'd want to keep it at. The thinking behind keeping the spare at a higher pressure is:

- the beads should be better seated and less likely to bleed air slowly, and

- it gives some leeway for it to bleed and still have enough to be used.

I bled it down to around 40psi - 50 seemed just too high. It's always worth checking the spare pressure occasionally as, unless you carry a pump, a flat spare is not much use.
