Sick Vvt-i Engine Options?

Hi All,

Great forum :)

after some advice please :)

I have a uk corolla 2000 model year with the 1.6 vvt-i 3zz engine I am in the process of taking the engine out of the car as the block is beyond repair, chucked a rod out the side and another out the sump

dont think it will run too good on pistons 3 and 4 lol

apart from the obvious 1.6 vvt-i like for like replacement option, are there any other engine alternatives I can run without too much messing about ie: serious re-wiring, new ecu etc im thinking maybe going 1.8 vvt-i but if its too much messing about with alarm/immob, keys, ecu then its not really in my interests.

lastly anyone have a good second hand 1.6 engine :)

many regards

Nick

Putting a 1ZZ in instead of a 3ZZ physically shouldn't physically be too difficult since the block and head are essentially the same.

Working from memory though you'll probably have problems with injector, knock sensor and water temp sensor connections and you'd need to change the engine mounting bracket off of your old engine to get it to bolt in correctly. The donor engine would probably need a new engine bay loom and ECU with it. You could try swapping those parts off of your dead engine onto the new one but think it might cause bigger problems in the long run (if the engine starts to knock since the wrong knock sensors fitted it'll kill the new engine too).

If you don't want to go with a standard replacement 3ZZ then it's still probably the easiest option to go with

thanks for the advice mate :)

think I'll keep it like for like and hunt down a cheaper 3zz than previous quotes, as it sounds like it will get more expensive with all the add on's on top of a 1zz engine purchase
