I'm thinking about painting my calipers and carriers, just wondering if anyone has done it already? and do you think they would like chavtastic?

I did the ones on my ae111 last weekend - no pics yet. Painted mine black so not chavy at all, just much better than not being painted.

I find it's the colour that makes them chav ...... ie Red ;)

Hope blue isn't included in that! That's how mine came from the previous owner. That's my story and I'm sticking to it...

Surely it depends on the colour of the car, and what you're trying to achieve.

If you're after something subtle and low profile then surely black/anthracite is the way to go. If you want them to stand out then paint them bright colours.

If you do it well then any colour can look good. It's usually only Chav if it's on a Saxo !

i quite like the red, but seeing as my car is silver i think i will go for black. is there a paint you recommend?

also as i was going to take the calipers and the carriers off the car, is it just a question of undoing the brake line and replacing the copper washer on the end of it? I don't want a leak!

Use smooth hammerite. it's very durable and goes on without primer.

You don't even need to disconnect the brake lines if you've got enough room. Just remove the caliper from it's mounts and let it hang, mask up the brake line and surrounding area, degrease the caliper and spray it.

Did the wifes front ones last weekend in silver hammerite(smooth). They look great! Looks good behind the alloys and to be honest they dont look painted, just look like thats the colour of the metal used to make the caliper as on the current Avensis.

I took the caliper off the carrier and supported it, removed the carrier, cleaned and painted both, reassembled and then touched up.

I was going to post pics but have been unable to.

Hammerite is Enamel based paint, so it can handle heat no problem. It's cheaper than the specialist high temp paints and usually looks better too !
