05 2.0 D4d Injector Problems

I dont know if anybody can shed some light on an issue: I bought the diesel with 10,000 miles on it from a toyota dealer and all was OK I do 100mile round trip a day 90% motorway and was getting 45ish mpg BUT I was also getting a pretty bad "missing" feeling at low speeds in a particular rev range. I took the car back to the dealer who, in all fairness were excellent and diagnosed the fault as injectors 1 and 4, they replaced these under warranty and the "missing" went away. Now I'm lucky to get 41mpg and the idling is rough when the engine is hot!! I plan to go back to the dealer but am interested if anybody else has had this problem???

Are the injectors prone to failing? (it would have cost me nearly a grand if it hadnt been warranty!!)

Cheers

Paul

When replacing injectors, the technician has to input the right "Injector Compensation Value" (32 digits), or scan the QR code. Maybe they did not do this correctly for the two replaced injectors? The engine ECU use the compensation values to calculate the precise injection period.

-Thomas Jorgensen. (Getting a new D-4D 126 on tuesday!) :yahoo:

had problem with my 2l tx3 diesel (done 35K miles) cutting out. So, after back and forth to my local dealer who was unable to cope, he sent it to toyota main dealer at hedge end, eastleigh. Mr T diagnosed a 'leaky injector' causing ecu to shut down. policy to change all four injectors and associated pipe work. so far so good after two weeks and about 700 miles, averaging 48 mpg. fortunately all done (£2000) under my dealers AA warrantee. pete

yep the injectors need to be 'matched' to the ecu. they are not plug and play

Thanks Lads,

Still got a problem with the oil burner, but after your advice will request they change the other 2 injectors and ensure they are matched as fuel consumption is still dire and missing seems to be just as bad. Will let you know how I get on

Cheers

My 05 2.0 d4d Avensis is booked into the local dealer ( Westlands, Bromsgrove ) for an engine noise that starts around 1800 rpm and then stops again around 2100 rpm, but only when you apply full throttle.

Toyota UK have given insructions to the dealer to carry out diagnostic checks on the fuel injectors, as they believe this is where the trouble is.

Will let you know how I get on after Wednesday.

Anyone else heard of this type of fault before? :help:

How did you gte on "Gus" ???

Mines been back in today and appently I have a leaking injector!! What a suprise! They wont admit whether its one of the old ones or one of the new ones. The missus picked it up and has booked it back in as they need it for 7 days!! They told her the head needs to come off to them?? I will be ringing Friday as I want all four replaced and the associated pipework as it seems there are plenty of people on this forum complaining about the same thing. Your is the first time I have read that Toyota UK are suspect of the injectors though!

Hope you have more luck than me mate

what sort of engine noise is it? i get a 'rumble' at around 40 - 40mph, but sounds more like a rubbing/throbbing noise from the rear of the car than the engine. Something else they are going to have to look at just before the warranty expires

I think I'm having something similar with my '05 D4D. It's at the dealer at the moment for a 'throtle-judder' sort of thing in the 1200-1800 rev range. Very annoyning when you spend a lot of time cruising in that range in the diesel car...

I'll post something when I get it back - they've had it a week so far and are still waiting for some parts apparently. Great ammo on this thread if I'm not satisfied though - brilliant lads.

What is considered a good price to pay for new Toyota injectors?

The Toyota stealers said that I needed 2 new ones and they were £395 + VAT each (Ouch)!

I have a quote for 2 new Toyota/Denso ones with a 12 month guarantee for £195.00 + VAT each

If I buy them, can I fit them and then drive off the get them set up accurately at a diesel specialist?

What is the best way forward without having to give the main stealers a grand plus?

Normally basing on my practice all injectors are due to be calibrated at all together to have their performance as equal.

What might be happened -- two were replaced but other two not.

I took my car in for a routine "Intermediate" service at the Toyota dealership in Cheltenham (mileage at 66K but stamped at 70K - due to 12 month interval since last service at 59K)

They told me that a misfire in the injectors had been detected on their diagnostic equipment - to be honest I never noticed anything wrong and fuel consumption is very good. My car has been booked in for 3 days to have the injectors replaced under the extended warranty that I took out with Toyota.

I was shocked by some of the comments posted by other members on the price of these components. I have a Toyota Avensis 2.2 D-4D TR 2008 Model.

Just wondered if I should take the dealers advice and have the injectors replaced under warranty? Like all things warranties are only insurance policies and who knows what will happen when the renewal is due in January 2013 (end of 2 year extended warranty) I was hoping to continue with a further 2 years as the car is less than 7 years old.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

Regards,

John
