VVTi-L is the 190bhp motor with lift

any advertised as VVTi are the 140bhp motor as they do not have the high lift cams @ 6,200rpm

When the Gen 7 was released, the '190' model was what has now become the T-Sport

So they are the same thing just the 190 was renamed tsport at some stage?

190 - No Traction Control

T Sport - Traction Control

Thats the mechanical differences.

Insurance was £900 for a 190, and £1500 for a T Sport - only cause of TC.

I think you will find there are a few more mechanical tweeks than just the traction control, and I think the reason why the tsport may cost more to insure is that it would be newer than the 190 therefore higher in value and also a slightly different spec to the 190, and the later tsport is a facelift.

Erm ive got a t-sprt and no traction control when i bought it i assumed it would have it but as when wet it spins all over i dont think i have it??

i believe at some point in 2002 the traction control became standard fit on the t-sport i think i just missed out.

You might find that there are some grey import T-Sports that pre-date the UK T-Sport.

I know that when I had my 190 there were a few around that were badged T-Sport instead; they seemed to be almost identically spec'd, but were imported from mainland Europe (but still RHD)

I'm surprised at the insurance price difference between the 190 and T-Sport.

IF it is down to the TC then I agree traction control should make the car safer, and also agree that it's not really necessary on a FWD celica - yes you can spin the wheels if you press the loud pedal too hard, but it's quite easy to avoid that once you get used to the car. Perhaps some insurers are quoting different figures because the early T-Sports were imports; they seem to love hiking up prices for imports even if they are 100% the same as the UK cars.

HTH

T-Sport has Climate controlled air con instead of manual. Bespoke full leather upholstery instead of plain leather front seats and plastic everywhere else. 17" alloys with locking wheel nuts instead of 15/16".

When revised shape Celica came out (around 2002, with gaping front mouth on the bonnet), T-Sport gained traction control (switchable) and Electronic Stability Control.
