Rear Cargo Lip/bumper

My dogs have always travelled in the back of my cars, and they leap in and out enthusiastically. With the RAV, though, they are scratching the finish on the upper surface of the rear bumper. This must be a very common problem - what do others do/recommend to avoid it?

Hi

Mine is only 6 months old and the bumper is fast becoming a mess. There are two accessory protectors available. 1 is a vinyl transfer and the other is a plastic capping. Niether are cheap but you can find them on the accessory web site.

I am going to the usa soon and will see what they have there before I decide what to do. Its a shame they didn't extend the plastic capping that is under the door.

Cheers

I solved it by using my fathers car for the beast after the dog had a £29 wash/dry and toenail cut !

Thanks, I'll take a look. If they're as expensive as most "manufacturer's original" accessories tend to be, though, I'll probably look elesewhere. One option might be a piece of chequer-plate cut to fit (my other car is a Land Rover :)).

That would suit me, but I guess folk that don't find it a problem prefer the extra colour-matched area.

Another vehicle is not an option here. Even if it were, though, I'm buggered if I'd pay twenty nine quid for a doggy hair-wash and pedicure! Buy a pair of toenail clippers and a bottle of dog shampoo, and save your money for the vet bills...

Steve, I bought one off E/Bay from West Riding Toyota (Bradford). You tend to find that they only appear here very infrequently. Your best bet is to push your Main Dealer into doing a search for one thru Toyota. They are available thru out Europe but for some reason they don,t seem plentyful in the UK. You have an XT5 with spare wheel so they are easier to source, I had to addapt mine as I have a T180 with no spare wheel. Another dealer who periodically advertises them on E/Bay is Andrew Rowley (main dealers in St Albans) keep a look out for them as well. Final comment they are worth their weight in gold as they cure the scrating of the rear loading area.

Good Luck

Clare

you can find them on the accessory web site.

Actually, I can't - is it a separate site from the Toyota GB one? That seems to have very little detail on accessories at all.

Steve type Toyota Europe into Google and follow that.or go to another Toyota countries website you will find they are more explicite with their accesory range than the UK one

Thanks Clare, the Toyota Europe site does seem rather better for accessories. I still can't find the rear bumper/sill protectors though, oddly - I'm probably being dense!

Steve

Try this link;

http://techdoc.toyota-europe.com/find_SM.a...d=1〈=En

click search publications

drop the publication box and click accessory instalation manuals

click the red box "search aim"

drop the RAv4 box and the body protection box

The ones you want are bumper protection film and bumper protection plate.

You can get the part numbers and then phone your dealer for a price. I think the plate was about £58 plus VAt but you would have to check.

Good luck

I got the Toyota palstic bumper cover, about £45, which is steep but it does the job (stops the dog scratching the bumper). Like other entry says why wasn't the textured black bit extended to the edge. Answer, because they couldn't have sold you a £45 bumper protector then. I think i'm becoming synical.

Thanks, got there eventually - Toyota don't make it easy to see accessories, do they? It's useful to have the installation manuals available on-line (though the protection plate manual showed as blank pages for me), but it would be nice to be able to see the product itself (and prices) in an online catalogue of some sort.

Expensive for a bit of plastic, but I guess it would be worthwhile to protect the investment in the car.

That would be the same folk who say that Weegies have more money than sense, I guess :D Anyway, we prefer "canny" :)

A bit, yes, but rather better than £58. I take it from this that the price dealers charge for accessories is as variable as the discounts they give on the vehicles :(
