New Yaris

Hello, got my 2001 Yaris T-Sport last saturday, thought I may as well get round to joining the forums.

I haven't posted any pictures as I'm sure you've all seen about 100 Thunder Grey ones about, and I haven't modified it at all. (Can't afford that as I'm 18 and this is my first car, so the insurance is 1600...)

Yes it is. The price dropped considerably, because I had a pass plus, and I had been driving my mum's car as a named driver (and learning in it) for a year (which coincidently is a 1.0 Yaris). These two things dropped the price around 100-200 pounds a piece.

I am with Quinn Direct, because most insureres just say "get out" basically, or "that will be £3000-4000". Found out although they are cheap, they aren't very good, so don't go with them unless you have too, theres no windscreen cover and I have a crack in it . That means full windscreen price or lose my NCB.

Out of interest does anybody know how much a Yaris windscreen is???

Mat.

Welcome to the club, it's a bit late for this year but have you considered putting your mum on your insurance? God knows why but when I was thinking about my options I did a quote & put my mum on it (under my name so it would have built my NCB) & it knocked it to about half the price of when she wasn't on it. I really can't understand the reasoning behind it but that's the way it is

My mum is on the insurance, and it neither increased nor decreased the premium.

I don't think I can hope for a better quote than this it my age, in a few years hopefully I will be able to change insurance companies for a similar price.

Nah, she say's she'll drive it but I don't think she'd dare incase she broke it (that's her 1.0 Yaris in the picture). My dad's driven it a bit, but not much, he has the black Passat which is behind it.

I'll look into the insurance companies which you said and see what i can find, but you have to remember that if you are a girl you get it alot cheaper, on my insurance company I changed the s*x to girl and it went down to around 1000.

And yep it's all completely standard except I added the T-Sport Badge on the back.

Yes they are; and I like to know that I payed for it all myself and it's still better than all my friends cars, alot of whom had cars bought for them.

Well I had a years no claims named driving on mums and a pass plus, and I went with QuinnDirect who are cheap but crap, so I've read anyways. Will be changing companies asap.

I'm sure you'd get a better quote on QD sphinktar, although you'd probably be best where you are.

Tried Adrian Flux and they said £2263.63, think I've tried admiral before and they said too much as well.

Couple of point's; tried Elephant insurance again, and it was about 100 quid more, BUT had windscreen cover, so look's like I should have went for that (still live and learn, although that was with 2 months free, so would probably be a few hundred extra to renew as well.)

Also... Is anyone here running Avon's? I have nothing to compare them too as it's my first car/set of tyres, but they seem really rubbish in this wet weather we have. From slow accelareting up to a 60 limit while I was in second I could hear the left wheel spinning, and the grip just seems rubbish really while accelarating (and not thrashing it either, just a normal accelaration). Also I have been trying to get the best MPG I can out of this tank (as I can't afford to refill it right at the moment), the average MPG which has been around 40ish has dropped to about 38 literally overnight after all this rain!!!

May just be me thinking it's tyres when it reality it's just a more powerful car than I'm used too (drove my Mum's 1.0 Yaris for a while, think they are Avon's too actually.)

in the wet you will tend to get quite a bit of wheel spin unless you take it really easy.the avons arent anything special but you maybe gettin low on tread??

jus run your finger in the groove of the tyre n make sure you have plenty there..on my standard tyres i found that in the damp i'd still be wheelspinning in third if i was trying to get away to quick!!i'd be well happy if i saw 40mpg on my dash, best ive seen is bout 37 n that was taking it really easy.if i dont drive it for a couple of days it can drop some points.but i dont think its anything to worry about.been looking for lights that look like yours every where cant find them on the tinternet any chance you could have a look n see if you can find a parts no.??cheers.

Nah they are almost brand new, read up the Avon ZV3's on the internet and they say they don't work well in the wet, got 2 out of 5, I'll probably go for some better ones when they need replacing, and yeah that fuel isn't too bad thinking about it, it just dropped very quickly. I don't think the light's will fit a phase 2, as the P2's have a notch in their's which matches up with the bumper, but they may do.

On the back of the right light was written:

R

Lens >PC<

Housing >PP-T20<

Not sure if that's the number you need, but it's all I could see, and I couldn't see the left one very well as theres things in the way and it's all upside down and that, but I'd imagine it will be the same with L written above it instead.
