Buying An External Hard Drive

Looking to get an external hard drive to free up some space on my i-Mac.

Any suggestions? I don't need anything too big memory wise, like a 250gb, but it needs to be reliable & quick with firewire connection.

We've got a fair few at work, but just so you know the usb 2.0 ones go as fast if not faster than the firewire ones, so I wouldn't be too hung up about them being firewire (we've got a mixture) One of the Lacie Drives has got Firewire 800 and that doesn't seem any faster.

Maplin are doing a USB 2.0 Maxtor one which is 400GB for £84.99

Ebuyer do a Seagate 320GB for £63

Yeah, we use Lacie at work but they are fairly slow. Only wanted a firewire because I've run out of USB ports and was being lazy by not getting a USB hub!

Cheers for the info mate

I'm still waiting for them to bring out a decent capacity portable hard drive. At the moment the majority of companies are limiting the size to 160gb.

Aldi had them for sale last week, 500Gb for £90, 1 pence more expensive per GB than the one Johndcfc mentioned. It had a Samsung HDD within and it was boxed with an e-SATA upgrade kit (whatever that is...?)

Tesco are selling the exact same product for £147!

Might be worth calling your local store on the offchance they have any left.

Cheers.
