Gen 7 Engine Warning Light

Hey Guys,

Quick question, was driving my 2000 vvti Celica down the road normally as one does and all of a sudden the engine warning light came on.

Not to good with all the tech stuff but was wondering if anyone on here has any idea what could have set it off, it had only just had it's 50k milles service with Toyota and has never given me any problems before.

Should I still be driving it with the light on?

Thanks in advance.

Don't really know mate you would have to check the ECU for error codes but......

it had only just had it's 50k milles service with Toyota and has never given me any problems before.

..maybe I am sceptical but sounds like they wanted to drum up some more business!! :P

LOL, my thoughts exactly, but when I phoned them they said that it was just a coincidence! I said too much of one!

They also said that it usually is something to do with the emisson sensors or something like that and to find the exact problem would take 2 hours and would be chargable! Or they would reset the fault and give a general diagnosis, this would take 30 mins and they would do it for free.

Which one do you think I chose!

It'll take them about 2 minutes with an intelligent tester to tell what the fault code is.

Procedure is take the cap off of the sensor connection. Can't remember exactly where it is in the celica but if you stick your head in passenger or drivers side footwell you'll probably see a plastic cap covering a connector port similar to a serial port for your PC.

Plug in the intelligent tester and check error codes and that'll give them an idea.

Then work from there. If it's an emissions problem have a look around some of these pages and you'll see quite a few comments around cleaning air flow meters and other fixes. Just get them to reset and see if it comes back and work from there
