When I ordered my Aygo, I ordered the TomTom navigation system option. They originally wanted 650 euro for it, but I talked them down to 450 euro. This is still 100 euro more than I can buy the 710 for here in town, but I figured it was worth the extra cost for a proper installation.

When I went in to pick up my Aygo, there was no mount installed. In the Aygo booklet (and on the German Aygo site), it shows a picture of the TomTom mounted on the dash. I asked them where the mount was and they told me that I was supposed to use the suction bracket included with the TomTom. Obviously I was displeased with this answer, since I was expecting a proper dashboard mount. They claimed that they hadn't even heard of the mounting system I was referring to (this is the same dealer that didn't even know there was a diesel version of the Aygo). I insisted that such a thing existed and I e-mailed them the installation guide for the mount. They ordered it and we scheduled an installation date. Because I expected this to be included in the original price of the TomTom, it didn't even occur to me to ask who would be paying for this.

The day finally arrived and after the install I went in to pick up my Aygo. The service department guy I was dealing with pulled out a bill and said "That'll be 300 euro". I just stared at him blankly and he finally said "Oh, was this included in the lease?" I wasn't sure what to say (since technically a separate mounting system and its installation wasn't explicitly included in the lease), but since I didn't have 300 euro and had been assuming all along that this was going to be free, I told him yes. My salesman wasn't there that day, so I couldn't talk to him about it. This was almost a week ago and I still haven't heard anything from the dealership. What do you folks think? Did I just rip them off for 300 euro? Was it reasonable for me to expect to get the mount for free (given how they advertise the TomTom in their literature)?

P.S. The mount only seems to do two things: turn on the TomTom when the car starts and charge the TomTom. I was hoping for some ability to route the TomTom audio through the stereo or reduce the music volume when it announces instructions. As it is, the mount seems more or less useless. Does anyone know anything about this?

The tomtom in the UK is sold as package, meaning that it is fitted with the permanant mounting fixture. I understand from the literature that you should be able to hear the instructions throught the car Speakers.

I didn't go for this option for 4 reasons;

-Pretty confident I could get the same thing (or better) for less money

-Sat nav technology is improving rapidly & didn't want to commit the dashboard to a particular brand

-didn't want to sacrifice dashboard space. I don't believe you should loose any practical features when adding accesories.

-The mount would be an easy clue for thieves

I now have a Medion GoPal 210 purchased for £100 (now £80 from Currys), which has better GPS microchip (Sirf III) than the Tomtom(Sirf II). Touchscreen, ready from the box and even has speed camera locations

Well bet that'll make zerosome feel better about his purchase. NOT!

when i got my aygo in the UK, we made them throw in a TomTom for free, obviously it wasn't the mounted kind, just in the box.

i think you have been ripped off sadly, however go and yell at that dealer and demand a refund.

I brought my aygo with the tomtom 500 installed i paid £335, when i picked it up it was stuck on the windscreen with the sucker thing, it took 3 months for toyota to sort it out. I arranged for it to be picked up from my house to get it installled and 5 hours later it came back with another satnav system installed in my dashboard, so i sold that one for £200 but when i went to upgrade the software on it things stopped working it is all a waste of money but it does look good in place.

So the final answer is: Yes, my dealer tried to rip me off.

:ffs:

Reread my original post for the full story. I recently received a bill in the mail for the labour on the TomTom installation. The bill was for 114 euro (1.5 hours of labour). This is for something the install manual describes as a 20 minute job. I went in to talk to my dealer about the charge. He claimed that the installation of all accessories is an additional cost (this is only true for some accessories, the TomTom is not one of them). I argued with him for about twenty minutes about it (I won't bore you with the details, but he didn't have a leg to stand on and frankly didn't even try to argue), but he essentially said "No, you're screwed, you're just going to have to pay." I was absolutely livid when I left.

I contacted the Toyota dealership in Frankfurt and asked them about this. They told me that I should not pay for the installation. My girlfriend called our dealer and told them as much. He said he would talk to his boss on Monday and thinks we can probably "work something out".

As unlikely as it is, just in case you ever consider it: Do not deal with Michael Glaum at Auto Schubert in Marburg Germany. He is a liar.
