07 Avensis Trip Computer

Hi All

I have an 07 T3X 2.2D4D. When I fill my tank to full it says I only have 470 miles remaining even though I am getting 47mpg. As in previuos diesels I have owned with a 60litre tank it should read over 600 miles remaining. Has anyone else got the same issue?

I have a T180 and have exactly same thing happening, always reads 470 ish maximum. Also shows less miles left than is actually the case (50 miles less but only takes 50 litres of fuel)

It's wierd as the MPG is quite accurate as I have filled it to the brim a couple of times and worked out the MPG manually (The MPG gauge actually under reads slightly but thats better than over reading)

If I remember correctly my 07 2L D4-D does the same, although I haven't filled it up much. I was surprised when I saw it because my 1.8 old model Avensis was more (but not really) accurate. I wonder if it has something to do with the saving of a long term average mpg. With a new car perhaps the starting point is quite low for the mpg used in the calculation. As you drive perhaps the trip computer is saving up your overall (i.e. from new) mpg and using that.

If my hypothesis is right we should see 06 facelift cars getting more accurate after a fill since they have had longer to establish a reasonable mpg.

Of course it could just be a fault! ... or it's keeping back a reserve volume and not taking that into consideration?

I'm not sure it saves a long term mpg figure. Doesn't the computer reset when you fill up? And there is a reset facility on the mpg computer as well.

Well I've just done 2000 miles over a two week holiday. Before, when I filled up the range was about 450miles (equivalent to 35mpg). Now it is 550 miles (equivalent to 42mpg - whereas I'm really getting about 50mpg).

Range = Consumption * Capacity

Since the Capacity is fixed and known, then the only thing that can have changed within the computer is the Consumption. Internally it must have gone up from 35 to 42 mpg.

All I think that resetting the computer does, is to tell it that you've filled the tank but I may be wrong. Next time I fill up I'll reset and see what the range is.

You could well be right. :thumbsup:

I've only done about 1500 miles in my 07 diesel and on hols it showed about 51mpg when I calculated it to around 54mpg. I put the discrepancy down to not filling to the brim. I'm always a bit wary of getting diesel all over me. :huh:

Like yours though the range calculation is never believable after filling up.

My previous 2.0L diesel appeared to reset the computer when I put fuel in. I assumed this one does the same. There is a reset facility that I thought allowed me to do the same thing but between fill ups. Could be wrong - I haven't checked it. :)
