Hi all

Just wondered if anyone out there can advise me of any pitfalls i can avoid with owning a 2.0 vvti SR saloon 2002 51 reg!

I bought the car from a friend in January with approx 27000 miles on the clock. He got it new so i know its not been bashed & crashed and he always had it serviced on time.

I've covered approx 6000 miles since with 1 big expense!!! I hit a rabbit at about 70mph and it cracked the front bumper and smashed a fog light, £260 to put right...ouch

I always look after my cars and get any problems dealt with straight away before they become expensive but i refuse to pay to have oil,oil filter and air filters changed!!! I always do this myself and replace oil and filter twice a year (when i got my first car a work colleague said the most important thing in a car is clean oil)

Any advise???????

Yeah tubamans right, if you get bad luck like me you'll wish you bought a honda. VVTI's suffer from oil consumption then engine failure :crybaby: I my self did not expect this but my avensis engine crank failed. Apparently this is common for toyotas these days. Crap innit. Now i've got something better but better not say as this is a toyota Owner club.

Just a word of warning ! this subject has been discussed extensively on the forum as there is a problem with excessive oil consumption on the vvti engine models which starts at around 40,000 miles if you decide to do the oil changes yourself and this problem occurs you will not have much chance of Toyota helping you .

Do a search on the forum and read the results you get

Hope it helps and I know it seems a lot to pay for an oil and filter change but it could save you money in the long run

As far as I know, the oil issue only involves 1.8 litre engines. The 2.0 litre ones should be safe.

I had a feeling that might be the case but I was not sure perhaps some one will confirm it for top122

A very common problem with these is the o2 / lambda sensor failure. I've had one go on mine (2001 2.0 vvti). Toyota charge about 175-200 to fix this. And there are four of the buggers!
