Clutch Squeak

Recommended Posts

I had a new clutch fitted at 85k and now a year on am on 95k and the clutch has started to squeak. The noise is louder if i open the bonnet, so it is not a squeak from the actual pedal. I understand that the first thing to try is a lubricant on the rod that goes from the pedal into the engine bay. Failing that is it a master cylinder i need ?

Does anyone have experience of what this would cost to replace including the part and whether it would matter if i tried to ignore the squeak ?

Thanks guys

Is the noise coming from the bulkhead area when you listen from the engine bay or more towards the gearbox?

If it is coming from bulkhead area it will be the master cylinder (very common) You can try and lubricate the rod under the dash but usually this makes no difference.

If the noise is from the gearbox area then it will most likely be the slave cylinder where it sits inside/meets the clutch arm/lever. This can be levered away and greased - this usually takes the creak/squeal away.

Some of our customers dont bother having the master cylinder replaced (if out of warranty of course) they just put up with the noise. Never had a clutch master cylinder fail - just gets a little louder.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the comments. I think it is bulkhead, so looks like a master cylinder. Will turn up the radio a notch and put up with it !
