Rear Wiper Motor

I have an Avensis 2001 1.8vvti and had an intermitent rear wiper which also started to wipe when it wasn't even turned on. It became very annoying as it was going when the window was bone dry and started to damage the wiper.

Initially i just unplugged the connector to the motor, but when its dry and dusty or wet the rear wiper did come in handy.

So i bought a used one from a salvage company for £58 incl delivery, which i felt was a little expensive, but i fitted it in about 10 minutes and it works. A new one i understand is £120+.

For those thinking of doing the same thing, it is an easy job with a basic socket set and philips screwdriver. Getting the connector off was a bit tricky as it locks in with three plastic clips but a couple of screw drivers helped prise it off.

The motor also seems to have a weakness with one of the bolt holes as the one i bought had one of the bolt areas stuck back on and my old one had also broke off.

Hopefully this one will last a good few years, but we'll have to see. If it doesn't then clearly the used option would not have been a good buy.
