Gt4? What About Maintainance?

I've been seriously researching both cars (gt and gt4) and have had a unanimous decision on the gt4 for about everything to do with the car secept fuel and an extra 3 to 4 hundred notes on maintanance so its a fair few months away but i'm set on the 4!!!

ok heres a question for ya (and i'll do a new post incase this doesn't get reviewed!)

i've been hereing clutches going around 60k and disks at around 75-80k, do i go for the low milage or look to pick one up over a 100k purely because i know all major works been re-done? and when is the turbo likley to need a newy or some tlc?

o and how much should i put in the kitty for maintaince (yearly) around 800 or am i being a bit optimistic??

These cars are getting to the age where a lot of the parts are rather worn, if you can get away with just £800 a year in maintenance nice one!

Superstrut will cost you £600 alone in parts if that start clunking, Turbo's I think are given about 100k then they might need replacing, depends what kind of condition the one is in that you buy.

Clutch is a big job and certainly not cheap, brakes aren't particularly cheap either, but as long as you don't rush into buying the first car you see then you'll find a good un :)

The rear diff mount can start clunking also, not too bad at £80, but it all adds up. Cost of bits also varies depending whether you replace stock with stock or go uprated. recently cost me in excess of £300 for discs and pads for the front of mine! but these were uprated items.

Have a drive in one, if you think you could put up with the cost of running one, then buy one  Great fun and I never regret buying mine :D

TBH stock brakes are fine. as far as i can tell the TRD discs are exactly the same bar the grooves. one thing the ST-205 dosnt have is poo brakes.

yeah clutch is a biggy as it requires the engine out but then you can save money by having things like fuel filter and timing belt changed at the same time as they are easier so you save labour.

fig 8's and lower arms arnt cheap but at least when they are done they should last another 70,000-100,000 miles before they need doing again.

biggest thing with the four is dont skimp on anything. keep it well serviced using quality lubes and filters. put decent rubber on and it will serve you well.

cut corners endup costing you more in the long run

Clutch replacement is an engine out job?!! Why is this? Surely the job isn't that different to my 3S-GE? I'm getting a little worried now. I didn't think there would be so many things at that expense. I'm going to be very poor arn't I? :crybaby: At least I'll be a fast poor person. :P

4WD mate. the transfer box sits behind the engine and makes it very very difficult to remove and reinstall not to mention that the gearbox and transfer weigh about 85KG.

lot easier to do out of the car.

3S-GE is only 2WD so no problem doing it with the engine in situ
